Here is a cheap alarm that works. Modified it has an external antenna for both transmitter and receiever. Mine also has an earphone jack where I can attach headphones or ear buds for listening. I can even snooze on the bunk or in the blind and will be notified when something passes in front of the transmitter.
The alarm as it comes from the factory has a sound that will wake the dead, so just go inside and clip the speaker wire, and rewire to an earphone jack. The receiver has a few lights across the top that illuminate as well. It's silent with an earphone jack, and also has the lights that illuminate.
Look over this page to see how to modify the unit. DoubleUp is the many to ask about this modification. It's his invention, and it works great.

The alarm sometimes goes off accidentally during the day time, maybe from shadows cast by the sun on the timber, or maybe the heat of the sun, but if it alarms at night, you can bet the farm that something is there that triggered it. I have tried other alarms that were more expensive than this one, and neither worked as well.
