Alliant MP 300 in Hornet ?

mountain state

Any of you Hornet shooters tried this powder yet ?
I tried a few others last year and picked up some Lil'Gun.
Haven't got to try them yet.
Alliant's site shows,MP-300. 2,994 w/11.7, 40 gr. v-max.
Hodgdon shows.......,Lil Gun. 2,826 w/13.0, 40 gr. vmax.
Velocity ain't everything, but if i can get the same groups with 118 fps more, and do it with 1.3 grs. less, I'll take it.
If anyone has tried it, How did it do ?
What type of rifle ?

I have not tried the MP-300, but use the lil gun. The nice thing about lil gun is that it operates at much lower pressures than any other powder I know for the hornet. . .it really makes the brass last longer. If you push the Hornet too hot, your brass life will suffer.

2nd what Mikethehunter says about Lilgun, especially the much lower pressures.

I use a 45gr Barnes XLC over 13.0gr. Lilgun and get around 2,900fps with it. With a naked 45gr bullet, I hit 2850fps. This is out of a 20" barrel Ruger M77. Lilgun seems to have lower SD's with heavier bullets.

If Alliant MP300 shows reduced pressures like Lilgun, I would try it.
