Alpha Dogg external antenna Mod

New guy here so hi. Thought I’d post a Mod I did to my alpha dogg. I did a search and didn’t see anything similar and that is how a found out about this board. Occasionally I have problems with my remote staying connected to the caller. I would have to raise my arm to get it to connect. So I cracked open caller and replaced the cheesy internal antenna with an external. End result is I haven’t lost connection yet and can go longer ranges.

I’d do its operated on 435.1750 mhz. The one old internal antenna was only like 2.75” long (don’t quote me on exact length I threw it out) by my calculations it’s now where close to being optimal for its operating frequency.

Super, that's near the lower end of the HAM radio 440 (70cm) band & I happen to have a few options of 440 antlers laying around. TKS

Yep, I just used this antenna from Amazon

KENMAX 400-470MHz SMA Male UHF Antenna for Handheld Radio Vertex VX-160 VX-168 VX-180 VX-400 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012ZRVP0Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.yErCbZ4J999N

And got this cable and cut to about 6” long which made it easier to reassemble.

The original antenna sits almost right below the location of the new antennas, right next to the speaker magnet, probably why it’s range was affected at times.

Also you don’t need to completely disassemble the caller just take off the feet, take out the 2 screws around the handle and the 4 front speaker screw. Mark the top of the speaker it only goes in one way. But if you just remove the speaker you can see the circuit board and antenna. You can separate the case enough to loosen the board and pull it out the front.

Unsolder the original antenna and the center wire from the new cable solders to that location and the shield wire will go to the pad next to it. it’s almost like the board was originally designed to have an external antenna.
