Aluma Hyde II with Magpul FDE

I just finished painting a couple magazines with Brownell's Aluma Hyde II Coyote. I think it is a pretty good match, figured I would post a picture in case anyone else was looking for something similar.

There are some more pictures and a walk through here.

I've since painted the rest of the rifle, so I'll add some pictures of it once it cures and I get it back together.

I use a heat gun up close to the metal after applying the alumahyde. I find that this helps it set up quicker so I can get it out of the garage and back into the safe while I am waiting on a full cure.

I like it! FDE is one of my favorites. Looks like it came out smooth. How does AH compare with other finishes? Tougher than Krylon but less so than Ceracoat? Do you anticipate much rubbing of the paint inserting/ejecting the mag? Thanks.

JCH, the blow dryer was a cheap substitute for a heat gun, I picked it up for maybe $6 at Goodwill so I wouldn't have to worry about getting paint on the wife's...

tt35, this is my first attempt at painting, so I'm not sure how it holds up compared to others. I already inserted one of the mags a few times and did notice some chipping where the mag catch hits the mag. I was annoyed at first, but every other metal magazine I have shoes similar marks. I'm going to leave the other mag unused for a couple more weeks and see if that makes a difference with the cure.

if you can bake stuff get some kgguncote. its a very good coat. ive used it on few things including a pistol and a 1022. any cote will show wear in high use areas. the guncote is gonna be the most durable. they had FDE and desert sand. best way to use it is to use a media blaser or parkerize it first then coat.

FDE handguard and desert sand barrel and reciever in duracote. sprayed that morning and put together that afternoon. i put to much hardner with no flattening agent in it thats why its so shiny.

Those look good, I was originally planning on going with Duracoat, but decided to use the Aluma Hyde since it came in a can and didn't require a sprayer. I really don't like the wait for the Aluma Hyde to cure, I would consider using a bake type finish just to speed up the cure time.

I bought an eletric smoker on sale to cure my parts. I can control the temp and cure time. I does a great job on trout, too.

the dura cote comes in a prevail kit that has everything you need to spray. get an extra can of air though. i bought an HPLV gun from napa for 80 bucks and a little 2gal compressor. i want a bigger compressor but dont have anywhere to put it it might not get stole lol. i got an electric oven that sits on the countertop and said it was for pizzas and stuff to deter the wife from throwing it away and use it for eveything up to about 16" long. duracoat sells a bake on also that im wanting to try. if you need help feel free to ask or even better is look on youtube at some videos.
