Aluminum Gun Case. Help

Ok fellas, help me out here. Im needing an aluminum gun case for airplane travel. Needs to be able to hold 2 scoped rifles side by side. I do not like them stacked on top of each other with a flimsy piece of foam between them. Good solid construction. Lockable (not some cheap combo latch like you see on a briefcase that can be popped with a screwdriver). Wheels are a bonus. Water proof/resistant is a bonus. Reasonable price would be appreciated.
Im looking for first hand experience here. I can do a search and find a bunch to choose from. But unless I have it inmy hands and have traveled with it, it's nothing more than a picture on a computer screen to me.

Cool, good luck! Sorry can't help you with your question. I've gone the cheap route, with just the hard plastic, lined with the egg carton foam. I've had no troubles with it. The cases I have are extra wide, intended for 2 guns but I only put 1 gun per case. 4 heavy latches and 3 pad lock holes, I pad lock both ends and the center. (keyed a like of course) Haven't had any damage or lost zero.

Have 2 of the Winchester brand from Sportsman Warehouse.
One double rifle, one single O/U. Both are airline approved and double will hold 2 scoped rifles. Have flown w/double and it does get the job done. Made well and locks are decent.
Now, that said, IMHO the guns are a little too close together to suit me and I put a towel between any points they might touch. I do recommend you spend the extra money for one w/wheels if you plan to fly w/the guns much. Two rifles get heavy on the hikes around airports, especially when leaving, always seems a long way to the ground trasportation area.
Hope this helps.

Here are 3 I have been looking at, although im not real pleased about shopping at Cabelas after the incident with a film maker who had to edit a sceen with a coyote in a trap before they would consider stocking his video. If I like the case, I'll just have to look around for that brand somewhere else.

case #1

case # 2

case # 3

For the money, #1.
Then 3 and last #2.
The 14" width and wheels are a real good point.
Don't know about the film you mention.
I do know I've been in their Sydney, NE store many times while working/living in Denver and they often had predator videos showing on the TV in the gun section. Must have been the trap & not the kill. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

If it doesn't have to be aluminum, I'd get a Pelican 1700. Waterproof, dustproof, air purge, and damn near bomb-proof. And it floats. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Tony, are the Pelicans cut to fit foam inside? I'd prefer a dense foam that just form fits around the rife since I have a few rifles and if I have to cut the foam to fit each rifle, thats just to much hassle not to mention having to store the other foam inserts when not being used. Hows the locking area? Just small holes for small pad locks?

I've got the 1620 and Kirk has the 1650. I'm not sure how many lock tabs the 1700 has. Mine just has a small tab for a padlock. You don't have to cut the foam if you don't want to and it's pretty dense. Plus if you break it, they'll replace it, FOREVER!!

I know it is not on your list but a lot of people that fly to africa swear but the tuffpak. It hold 2 rifles and a shotgun and a lot of other gear.

I am going to be buying a couple before my next trip.

Just a thought.
