Ambush Firearms

Anyone here have any experience with the Ambush Firearms? The are made by Daniel Defense which should speak for itself relative to quality and reliability. My main question is about accuracy. Daniel Defense is definately a tactical company. Can anyone show me some groups put together with either an Ambush or Daniel Defense? The guy on the phone told me they use the same hammer forged barrels as DD but they are not chrome lined. They also have a Geissle (spelling I know) trigger. Give me some feedback.

I have an Ambush Firearms in 5.56 with Realtree AP Camo.

I've taken it to the rifle range and shot about 20 to 30 shells though it. Using Remington PSP 223 ammo and a Nikon M-233 Scope 4 x 16 x 42 with the 600 BDC reticle.

I shot a group at 200 yards and all were within the second ring on the target. About 6" diameter target circle on the second ring.

I zeroed the rifle at 100 yards. I first boresighted the scope on the rifle at home using on of the laser type cartridges that fits into the gun's chamber. I like these type of boresighters the best. I set the reticle to about 1.5" below the bulleye with the laser beam on the bulls eye and the target at about 25 yards.

My very first shot with this new rifle at the range at 100 yard was right in the bulls eye. Not bad for a new gun and a pretty new shooter to AR15. The second shot a few minutes later was outside the bulls eye I'm still getting used to shooting this new gun with the new two stage trigger. Third shot was in the bulls eye again.

I actually did better shooting my neighbors AR 15 which is a High Standard with my 4X32 Gamo Air Rifle Scope and some tall Burris Rings and a 1" extension mount on the AR15's picatinny rail. I shot a group that were all about 7/8" apart which is sub MOA. I played around with my neighbors High Standard for about a week and shot it twice during that time at the very same rifle range.

I was using the 16x power on the Nikon Scope at first. Parallex setting was at 100 for 100 yard but I forget to reset the parallex setting on the scope for the 200 yard group. That's probably one reason why the group was farther apart other than it was two hundred yards not 100 yard.

And it was very windy on shooting day. Winds were gusting towards the shooters at 15 to 20 mph.

I cleaned the Ambush before and after shooting it for the first time. It's a little tight on the pivot pit and take down pins.

I grew to really like the two stage Gressley (SP?) trigger.

I like the trigger guard as it's enlarged so that I can wear gloves when shooting.

The castle nut and the gas key are properly staked. I checked to make sure.

If you Google "Ambush Firearms" you might find a negative review from a guy on the Glocktalk web site. He complained about the customer service about a year ago. Evidently he was trying to contact the company when they were on Thanksgiving Vacation and got upset because they didn't email him back right away. Others on the site tried to talk to him but he was upset that his gun was not working property and he thought he was being ignored by the company.

So I decided to call Ambush Firearms myself and check them out and see how they responded to me. I called and tried to connect with the Sales Dept but got an answering machine message. I left a message and they called me back in about 15 to 30 minutes. I explained to the lady what I was doing and that I was checking them out before I decided to buy one of their guns from a local gun shop that had on in stock. She apologized for not answering the phone and said that she was at lunch when I called. They are a small company and need another employee to cover the phones when people go out to lunch. Hopefully they will get better at answering the phones quicker.

But she was very polite and sounded like a good person to me. I told here the story about the guy complaining at the other web site and made sure that they were aware of this complaint. I also got an email from the owner and was pleased that he listened to my constructive critism. Most won't do that. I was impressed with their phone response and their email reply. I went ahead that day and purchased the Ambush 5.56 the next day. I'm glad that I got the gun.

I did a lot of online research and looking at guns in three different gun shops where I live. I was turned onto Daniel Defense at the Gander Mountain Gun Store where I live. I had never heard of this company or many of the other AR15 companies before this. I learned about Daniel Defense by going online and reading about them and asking questions about them. I didn't hear one negative about them.

They control the manufacturing of their parts at their Georgia Plant and went out and purchased the best cold forge hammer making devices a few years back. They make their own rifle barrels out of 4150 type steel and cold hammer forge their barrels to ensure quality of the process. You can read about this process if you Goggle it or go to the Daniel Defense Web site.

Note: Ambush Firearms is the hunting division of Daniel Defense.

Ambush Firearms web site seems to have a problem with it's Microsoft Security Certificate but you can chose to ignore the warning and proceed onto their web site and read about them.

I've only had the rifle for a few days now and have not had any problems with it so far. And the lady at the company who called me back said that they have a life time guarantee on their products. I'm hoping that I never need to use it.

Do your research and check them out for yourself with a few other people. Don't just take one man's word for their product quality.

Sometimes you can get a defective product from anyone. But it's how they handle these problems that sets one company apart from another.

PS: it's been my experience that if you want to talk to someone at any company it's best to first call their SALES Phone number. They all want to sell you stuff and not everyone will want to talk to you about defective products or repairs etc. That's why I called their sales number first. I really didn't have any good reason to call their other phone numbers. I just wanted to do two things. See if they answered the phone or not and to tell them about the guy on the glocktalk forums and see what they had to say about that.

I think that from what I've read that they are trying to be a good company and make a good product. But they are new and may have some growing pains. I'm just guessing that based on my limited experience with them. Time will tell if I'm right or not.

I've not shot this gun at the rifle range twice. It's accurate as all get out. Every shot was inside the small bulls eye on the Shoot N C target at 100 yards. First three shots using a Hornady 68 Grain HPBT bullet were all within about 3/4" of each other. Two were on top of each other. This is with a cold barrel and a Caldwell shooting bag on a steady bench rest setup at 100 yards with a bit of wind blowing. It shot well with the Hornady 55 grain Max V bullets too. And with the Remingtion AccuTip V bullets 55 grain. Even the Remington UMC shells were accurate.

The only shells I had fliers on was the Remington 55 grain PSP bullets. I don't like them very much as the tips are deformed in the box.

Edit 2019-09-05: I've been shooting using an EOTech HHSII system and using the M855 62-grain bullets in this AR15 Ambush Firearms Rifle from Daniel Defense. It will shot 2 MOA at 200 yards. And that with me having astigmatism that affects my sight picture when I shoot.
