Ammo and dampness?

We had some bad bad flooding up this way last week and luckly we only got about an inch of water in our basement. I was up at college, but my parents got my guns out of the safe and upstairs. But they left my ammo in my ammo safe (pistol safe) which was ontop of my gun safe. The water never reached the gunsafe beacuse it was on a platfrom a few steps up.

When I checked my slica bag in the gun safe, the sensors were pink which means they soaked up all the water they could. Im just worried about the dampness and the ammo sitting in the safe in the damp basement. All the waters gone and everythings dry but its still going to be damp down there.

Will the ammo be okay? I recharged the bag and put it back in the pistol safe with the ammo.

Its all factory loaded rifle and shotgun ammo

All the boxes feel dry and theres no corrosion on any of the ammo that I checked

I agree, it's nothing to worry about. Ammo submerged in water is one thing but a damp basement is no big deal. Your precautions made that a certainty.

To be on the safe side, I'd pull a few random rounds and check the brass...If corrosion has started, it will be discolored and needs to have additional steps taken as the corrosion will weaken the cases...

If it was in sealed containers, there is likely no problem, but if in cardboard containers, the paper will soak up any high humidity..

It would be a shame to let it go, without checking, and find out months later that it was damaged..

I keep mine in the garage in a large chest, but it's all sealed up in military ammo cans with rubber seals...Some of the lead tipped rounds will exhibit a white chalky coating but the rest of the rounds are good, and some of them have been stored for 30 years and moved several times between MO and FL..

Just for a point of reference. I once laundered two handloaded .260 Remington rounds. Basically they went thru the entire wash cycle...not the dryer. Anyway on my next trip to the rifle range I took those two rounds and shot them into a group with rounds from the same lot. You could not have told the difference. They had no sealer of any kind just standard fare hunting loads.
