An old shotgun ?

I had a talk with my grandpa about his guns and which ones I wanted the other day. It was a bitter sweet talk for me, but it made me feel pretty good in a sad way, when we got done. He's 90+ and sharp as a tack yet.

Anyway....

He handed me this old shotgun and said it was unsafe. Told me to fix it or do what I wanted with it.

It's a Noble Model 40-A , 12g 2.75" Made in Haydenville,Mass...

I've not researched it yet, just wanted to see if anyone had one or used one.

Noble guns i have come across were model 60s they were pump actions and i would say something along the lines of stevens savage that sort of quality, they made guns for Montgomery ward and sold under western field label. Quite simple and you should be able to make good and repair it yourself with a little bit of thought and common sense. Parts you may struggle but where there is a will there is a way. Enjoy it!

One of the first pump shotguns I ever shot or hunted with was a Nobel 16 ga. I don't remember the model#, but it is still in my family, last I knew. That thing broke many a thousand clay pigeons. Everybody hated standing next to the thing on the line, because it put off a peculiar high pitched ringing sound everytime you pulled the trigger.

Thanks for the info.

I knew it was a cheaper line, it's heavy as heck. Most guns then were though, real wood and heavy metal. Looks like the trigger guard/group is made of brass.

Will be a nice little project especially with the connection to your grandfather, i would advise you don't get too ambitious with it just get it working and clean the stock and metalwork up and oil the gun leave the age patina with it in my opinion.

I agree.
I've got his better shotgun already and a nice rifle comeing home soon, when ever I feel the time is right. My goal is to get to working safely and kill a yote or something with it before he's passes on. It would make him smile like no other. I'm his only hunting /fishing outdoor grandkid.

When I get a chance I'll do picks with a progress report.

Thanks for the kid words...
