Annealing prior to loading?

I have a question about annealing for the brass guru's. Is it a bad idea to anneal case's prior to loading? I ask because I have about 250 cases that I have already sized for my 6x45. While I only had a few split necks I have decided I want to try to anneal them at some point. If I anneal them prior to loading will it distort the neck, or make it to soft for proper bullet retention? Possibly causing me to need to resize and possibly over work the brass. Should I just wait till they have been fired and tumbled, before I anneal them? What are your thoughts?
 
I believe if the Annealing is done correctly would be no problem doing it now. I have been annealing Brass since the 60's with no problem. The problems come when you get the Brass necks to HOT. Good luck
 
You can't anneal them after loading.

I agree with Bman, I've been annealing brass since the late 60's and haven't had any problems. I anneal before sizing, but you could anneal them then run the brass back through the sizer before you load them.

There are many ways people anneal brass, some work and some don't. How are you going to do it?
 
I was planning on setting them up in a cake pan 2/3 full of water, heating the neck with a propane torch. Then tip em over into the water once they start to change color on the necks.
 
I size, tumble clean then anneal and load and have had 0 issues. Just don't get them necks red hot.. I quit heating once I see the neck shoulder area start to blue. Good luck. RR
 
When annealing if you wait till the cases are red before you tip over in water you have waited to long, just want the Necks heated to 600-800 degrees, The best way is to heat in low light when little change in color tip over in Water.
 
I use a socket, an electric screwdriver, a torch, and a bucket of water. It should take about 5-7 seconds. I just began annealing if anyone disagrees with me they probably know better.
