Another upper receiver?

Yoteless in Ohio

If I wanted to get another upper for my AR that shot a heavier hitting bullet than a .223 what should I look at? I know nothing about all of these AR calibers (except .243). I am not looking for a deer gun or hog gun, just maybe a little bit longer shooting and heavier hitting rifle for yotes.

Is it safe to assume that a larger caliber is going to add significant weight to the gun? I currently have a very lightweight carbine Stag Arms.

If you stay in the ar-15 the weight will be the same on similar configurations!

Do you reload? If so, check out the 6x45. If not, 6.5 or 6.8.

Well assuming you want to stay on the AR-15 platform I would look at one of these..

6x45... 6.5 Grendel... 6 WOA... 6.8 SPC... 6 DTI

And yes I own four of the above calibers. I love them. Be hard to pick just one for me. But a couple questions will be.. How far do you intend to shoot? How far do you intend to shoot critters? And do you reload?

It seems that the 6.5 Grendel or .264 lbc are the same. Are the ballistics a lot better than the 6.8 or 6.45? How about Ammo availability? Any problems finding ammo for either caliber?

It is good news that there are options that won't add any weight to the gun. If I do it it will be months and months away so I have time to research.

I don't do much hand loading so I would want something that I can find ammo for.

I'm really not sure why I am thinking about it to be honest other than I sometimes wonder if a .223 is really the best caliber for yotes.

223 is a great caliber for CALLED yotes ( when I say called meaning inside200 and usually100 yards). People have been killing yotes with 223 for years.

Yup nothing wrong with a .223. Try some 60-68gr bullets if you want more knock down. The 6.5 Grendel looks like a good round too but won be nice on fur.
