Someone once said there are no guarantees in life, that person was obviously a hunter. The area we drew our licenses for in Wyoming has not had rain in months and the food supply was drastically depleted. The Antelope moved on to areas where there was better grazing. Just seeing Antelope was a task. And to add insult to injury Mother Nature dealt us another blow, the night before the hunt a cold front moved in and we had to deal with 35 & 40 MPH winds. We had exclusive hunting rights to the ranch we were on and we were there for the opening day but the game just wasn't there, all of us had to settle for something less than we had hoped for. We managed 5 Antelope the first day none was over 12 inches. Thats me in the bibs with out guide TAD, the other pic is the hunter I was paired with and his step son, who tagged along just to watch, the boy was a delight to have along.

I know what you mean about conditions not being normal for that "big hunt." My first Wyoming hunt way back in 1994 was one I had looked forward to most of my life. Finally the time came and my buddies and I were so excited with anticipation of opening day. Only a couple of hours into the hunt, as I was sitting patiently, just knowing a huge mule deer would appear just any minute, it began to rain. Man, that Wyoming soil gets slick in a hurry. 4-wheel drive doesn't mean anything. It poured a combination of rain and snow for three days and was an absolute mess. We could barely walk anywhere without having 10 pounds of mud stuck to each boot. And, we even stuck the truck (4x4) way out in the middle of nowhere one evening. That was enough excitement to last for quite a while.

Well, the trip didn't turn out a total disaster after all. The rain finally stopped and that Wyoming wind continued to blow. Within a short time we were pretty much going wherever we wanted to, and managed to fill our tags - except that I didn't get a mule deer buck, but did get a doe and two antelope, one being a nice buck.

For a while there I was thinking that all the years of yearing for such a hunt, not to mention the money I spent getting there, would be in vain. Seems that we both ended up doing ok inspite of the less-than-normal circumstances.

leaving in the morning !! area 53 for 2 doe lope.. hope to shoot most anything there! pd . yotes , rabbits, birds!! what ever! hope to see one of the guys from here on PM.. told him i would buy the first one at the drifters inn!! lol looks like a little weather has moved in out that way!! oh well! gotta go!! hope to be back on pm. in about a week!! be safe and take a kid out side!!
 
Good luck Fudge. My group didn't get drawn so we are headed to Kansas for a week of coyote hunting and some scouting for bowhunting next year.
 
thanks!!! i hope you have a great time!! from what i have seen on tv you should do well! just getting out with friends and kicking back is worth the trip! hope you find a big one for next year and get some yotes this year!! have a good time and be safe!! if the weather works we will have a great time and if it is bad we will play some crib.. and poker and have a great time with my fam. ( sis, daughter, nephew, grand neice, son- in-law!! it's a no lose trip!! 8 lope doe and anything else we find!! they are all newbys so should be fun!! let me know how you do and if i should put in for kan.. next year!!lol have fun!! grandpa fudge
 
We have a couple of tags to fill for the group but my son's and mine are full so it's coyote time!!!!! Saw one this morning but it was on it's way out of town, and fast. Just relaxing after cutting up the deer, in Casper now, got a budy from Denver in town coming over for some eats tonight. Sure having a great time, hate to go back to WI.
