Any advice on staining antlers?

I'm working on a elk cal made out of elk antler with an engraving of a brand on the side. I want to make the brand pop so I was thinking of staining the antler or filling the engraving. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

It is easiest to soak the antler in stain for a day or two. Just doing a band may be a little more tricky. I guess you could tape it off and keep applying the stain. But it will probably bleed thru to the unwanted areas. Elk antler is just so porous. Good luck!

I had the best luck staining antler with a soup made from boiled black walnut hulls. The come out a real nice, natural, shade of brown.

Wear gloves though, because you WILL get stained hands and it won't bleach out. LOL!
