End use is important.
F-class and other shooting competitions usually don't allow you to use a rest that holds the rifle at both ends. You can use separate rests, but have to maintain contact with your shoulder. Those shooters often use a good front rest like the Sinclair.
But if you just need a rest to reduce felt recoil while your sighting in, or generally at the range, there's all kind of different rifle rests that will keep you from developing the dreaded "Flinch". See Midway, Cabelas, or any of the internet supplier for different ideas.
Or did we miss your question, and you were really looking for full shooting bench plans, that you could build, to put a Rifle Rest on?
