I was out there calling about a month ago near Winnamucca.Hunted friday and saturday, called 8 coyotes but was a little rusty and only shot 5 of them.If it were a little closer I would be hunting out there alot more.Looking forward to hearing some of your success stories in the not to distant future.GOOD HUNTING

jimlost, I live in N. Nv also, am going hunting next tuesday, probably off of Red Rock Rd. That area connects to Winnemucca Ranch Rd. Lots of dogs.

I have also hunted the Winnemucca area, Chimney Dam Res. is good along with around Paradise Valley. I lived in Battle mountain for two years. That whole section of NV is great. Also I know both wardens there, went to school with one of them.

Hey 409 did some calling out past the animal park off of Red rock road today. Called in one but he stayed well past 400 yards. I couldn't coax him in any closer. I was using a distresed quail call. Just a bit too far for my 223 to get him. 409 drop me an e-mail So I can pose some Nevada specific questions to you. Calling yotes in Nevada is quite a bit different than It was in Texas.

Cheers Jim

jimlost, if the weather ever gets any colder here the pelts will be real good. I can't remember it being this warm in november. I'll drop you an e-mail tonight.

jimlost,
I'm another one of these Northern NV. predator caller and I live over here in Fernley. I try to do alot of calling, but so far this year it has not worked out to well for me since I'm working nights now and don't get home until after midnight. I work at the Navy base in Fallon, so I most definately can't carry my night calling equipment with me to call on the way home. Wish I could since I have seen yotes, foxes and even had a bobcat cross the road in front of me one night. Have not done any calling up in the area that you and 409 are talking about. Most of my calliing is north and out east of Fernley. If you have questions, feel free to ask.
Welcome to Predator Masters and also welcome to Northern Nevada.

OK guys, enough of shooting dogs on Red Rock Road, I was planning on a long hunt there this christmas vacation. My father in law lives at the end, just shy of the cali. border. Carl, I hope we can hook up, but if you guys around Reno want to hook up for a day let me know, I will get in the area the weekend before christmas and leave the weekend after new years.

Funny I lived in Silver Springs for 2 years, constantly saw coyotes in my fence line, and yet never hunted them, didn't have the time, had to work to hard to make a living. Now I can take a vacation and blast them for the better part of 2 weeks...YAHOO!

Carl, I worked at the Fallon automall for a while, and did fax machine service calls at NAS for a bit as well.

Let me know guy's

Hey Carl would you drop me an e-mail. Is the fernely area any good? I drove out there last year and did some calling and got one nasty mangy dog. Glad I shot it ,felt sorry for it. I am trying to pick the brains of the local hunters out here. 409 thanks for the answers. Like I stated before this is a whole new game compared to Texas. Maybe i am just getting used to not having trees everywhere. Also Thedave I doubt you will have any trouble getting some dogs on your vacation.
Any other Nothern Nevada hunters feel free to e-mail me.
Cheers Jim

LOL

I was kidding about you guys bumping off all the dogs out there, I don't think it would be possible.

Lots of area to hunt all over Nevada, drop me an e-mail and we'll get together and bust a few.

Dave

I can give a general rundown of the area, Humbolt, Pershing, Elko, Nye, etc. The Chimmney Creek and Wildhourse has been good as is Golconda. Old 8A from Battle Mountain to Austin has much to offer, as well. Avoid the burn areas. For that matter, it burned north of Winnemucca a couple years ago, but the Paradise Valley to Denio has produced for many years, they are still there. Try the road along the mountains just past Quinn River Crossing. As I think of it, Bishop Canyon is also good, a little hard to find, though. Anywhere along US 50 can produce, especially right around East Gate. Fallon has some nice canals just to the north and an animal dump. The hills behind Midas holds a lot of coyotes, as does Gabbs; take the road to Tonapah. Speaking of Tonapah, Pevine Canyon just northeast can be good for dogs. Killed my first bobcat not more than a mile from Tonapah. I especially like the Lovelock area, up around Seven Troughs, and Jungo. Used to be called Cow Creek Ranch, real good, if you can find it. My dad got a lion right there, several years back. Be sure and work the wash south of rabbit hole and Rosebud Canyon heading toward Mill City. On the other side, Granite Mountain behind Kyle Hotsprings is very good, cats, long and short tails. Try Lymerik canyon coming back to 80, seen several (4?) lions there. Good areas around Carlin, especially south to the river. Last time I was around Eureka, the dogs were on the run, somebody must have been pressing them with aircraft. Speaking of which, anywhere up in the northwest quadrant, best get there pretty soon. I once killed twenty-two coyotes in a day and a half, hunting the hills of Blackrock Desert. Another spot to try is around Darby Field, in the salt marshes. I've been to all these places and more, in the last thirty years, so it's off the top of my head, if I misspelled or anything, please excuse inaccuracies/memory plays tricks on us geezers, sometimes. But, you try a few of the above and you should do better than picking a spot at random.

Good luck, BB
