I hunt all around Wisconsin and am finding it hard to get them the past few weeks. We have had the best weather in the last few weeks but just havent goten them.

I hunt WI too.

I usally hunt Waukesha, Racine, Walworth, Waushara, Forest, and Vilas counties. I too haven't seen many 'yotes around. Only saw two all season and that was in the more populated area of Waukesha county. I'm currently working N.W. Racine county with little luck. Saw 1 fox only a few weeks ago.

Whats up with that?

Im in southern wisconsin, I dont think there are any yotes in the state anymore. I feell that it isnt my calling,a nd I also fell that I would clean house in a state like Arizona.

I hunt in southern Wis,N.E.Wis,

I hunt coyotes in southwestern WI and northern IL. There are more coyotes out there than ever before, especially with last years' poor weather for hunting. The biggest problem with calling this year is the lack of snow. There's just too much cover out there anymore (grass, CRP, etc.) to see the coyotes coming in without alot of snow cover.

The breeding season is here and the coyotes are really moving now, so throw away the callers and go look for moving coyotes. I saw three just the other morning, and all were on the move looking for mates.

Have fun!

I hunt in the La Crosse area. I have had very little luck in hunting yotes this year. Areas that held a lot of sign and yotes last year have absolutely nothing!

I've heard talk of more guys hunting this year than last and I'm wondering if there's been a lot of education going on. We finally have some reasonable snow and I plan on hitting it this weekend.

I hunt mainly Forest and Oconto counties, this last week has been tough with the weather. Still going out every day at least to scout, lots of sign but calling hasnt been as productive as it has been in the past. I do try to use different calls when I hunt the same areas as to not educate them. Their patterns really changed with this snow.

I used to hunt Forest County 20 years ago. Blackwell and areas north. Had a friend in Laona.

Used to see a few Timber Wolf up there.

I hunt all over WI. and have been doing quite well recently. Waukesha County in the Mukwonago are has been very hot. Also have a small tract in Mequon thats been good. My best setups have been in the Devils Lake area though. Called in 8 last week, got 5. We got some snow now so should just keep getting better.

The Blackwell area is loaded with them, with the snow I have seen more coyote sign than deer sign, and didnt see any fawns this year, between the coyotes, bear, wolves, and the couple of couger rumered to be in the area the deer are really suffering in that area. If you want some good action on the coyotes anywhere off Goodman Park Road is a good place to be, I have yet to run into anyone else hunting them there either. I just cant belive how much they exploded over the last few years.

Now I'm gonna have to get my butt back up to Blackwell one of these week-ends.

I'm suprised the deer population has dropped so low. Ya know, of the 35 years I've deer hunted, the only two years that I saw nothing & was completly skunked, was in Forest County.

Thanks for the report.

Hey Moosetrot I too hunt in the LaCrosse area. There are a lot of guys running coyotes with dogs in this area. I don't know if that has any effect on the calling aspect, but it's been slow but picking up as of late. This weekend should be hot while all the romancers are catching up with their better halves, I'll be out with a whole lot less competition. Good luck to all that go!!!

I hunt SW Wisconsin.I've had good luck calling them bad luck killing them. It's snowing tonight /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I see the problem with allof you hunters that hunt in WI. You all hunt the southern or the south eastern portion of the state. I lived in northern Wisconsin before I enlisted in the Marine Corps, and the yote population ws phenominal. I never had a problem killin a good dog. Most of the time, All I had to do was go and sit in a field around a swamp and I'd have shootin an hour after daylight. If any of you have any questions about huntin the north side, drop me a line and I'll hook ya up. Semper FI

Luke,

I'd be interested in knowing where these hot spots are. I live in Dunn Co. Coyotes live in pockets traveling through farm country, calling is hit or miss (mostly miss).
I hunt deer in Burnett & Washburn Counties on public land. Even in the big woods areas the coyote tracks I find are spotty. Last year my dad and I went all day and found 1 set of tracks. Ran into dog hunters to and all they tracked were deer, no dogs at all. My family has been callin for the past 20 yrs. This is the worst I have seen it. I attribute this alot to the Minnesota Mud Ducks who "buy their 5 acres of paradise" put up cabins and ATV and snowmobile all over. Pressure is high by people, you can really see it in the amount of wildlife you find.

Fox populations are down to. The only critters in abundance are raccoons. I may have to try those next year.

The last few months I've worked N.W Racine and eastern Walworth Counties. Few 'Yotes, plently of Fox.

For all of ya that want to know where the good spots are, travelnorth. The more north that you get, the more Coyotes and Fox you'll see. Some people say that the coyote is precarious to humans, but I had one sit still for me after my brother missed with his .308. Of course the little brother had to comein and take care of business. Look for public hunting land that either borders a reservation, or farmlands. I've never had a problem killin there. I am only 19, but I've been killin yotes since I was old enough to carry a rifle by myself. Oneida and Langlade counties hold a good population, as well as Lincoln county. You can find alot of land available by Mole lake, right on Highway 8,near Crandon. Or just ask anyone where ther's some good public land that holds a decent population. Everyone around there knows. In Langlade county, try Petersons marsh off of highway S. Fox and Coyote galore. Just make sure that your scent of covered well, and you call constantly. I've had a 9 pointer come on after deer season(the one that got away) to my rabbit squeal. If ya'll have any more questions, drop me a line.
