any of you hunting hogs in texas with night vision?

once hogs have been shot at regularly with a light they flee at the first sight of one.
I have used night vision spot and shoot. If I had the $$$$ I would use thermal scopes.
Check out www.jagerpro.com this guy has some awesome scopes.

Hogs are only light sensitive if they've been pressured. I have walked right in amongst hogs with a light that hadn't bee hunted much and they seemed to ignore me unless they caught my wind. Once I started hunting them with a light they became real sensitive.

The other factor is that hogs eyes altough they will shine, they do not shine very bright like a deer or a predator. LED lights seem to make them shine a bit more than a standard spot light.

LOL! For the low, low price of $9,100.00, you can buy the cheapest thermal scope he sells! The high end one is $26,000.00!

Just a 'slight bit' out of my price range.

this is the reason i use gen 3 night vision to hunt hogs.they dont get pressured.they get dead.if i have any moonlight at all the nightforce 3.5-15x56 dosnt need a spot light.when i am hunting them in the thick stuff i use my shot gun with a laser.the laser shows up awesome with the nightvision.the nv i have now is the gen 3 itt mono.works better then the goggles for hunting.

nice to hear from you William you haven't posted that much lately when are we gonna get together and hunt at your place /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The D-740's I also list comes in a Gen 2 SHP (Super High Performance) DEP tube from the Netherlands. These tubes have very high specs above and beyond a normal Gen 2 system. In higher light levels they come close to a Gen 3 system. Hope this helps.

i just bought a gen 3 unit from Victor. i can see a long ways with the unit 200 yards. with the hand held torch i can see eyes out to 400 yards plus. Now if you put the 3x mignifier on the night vision unit that increases the distance. The coyotes, hogs and bobcats will never know im there until its to late.

+1 here, glad your enjoying the new unit. The new ITT PVS-14 Pinnacle Autogated tubes are impressive to say the least.

I became interested in night time hog hunting earlier this year. In order to gain some first hand experience with the NV gear, I traveled to Georgia this past April to hunt with Rod Pinkston with JagerPro. What a blast!!! With this hunt, I was introduced to the D-740/760 NV weapon sights and to the thermal imaging sight. I immediately ordered a D-760 (Gen III) through JagerPro. Since then, I purchased a second D-760 (Gen III Autogated Pinnacle) along with two IR illuminators (DA TORCH) from Victor at Tactical Night Vision. Both my sights are used on AR 308 type weapons. My first hog kill(s) with my D-760 occurred soon after with my shooting two boar hogs from my front porch. I had been after those two suckers for weeks!! This happened about 12:20 am with a distance involved of +/- 65 yards and 75 yards. The D-760, in my opinion, REALLY works well, and DA TORCH illuminators are excellent and have enough effective range for me to observe tree lines at approximately 600 yards. I have just ordered a PVS-14 (Gen III Autgated Pinnacle) from Victor, which should arrive tomorrow. I wil use the PVS-14 primarily for surveillance purposes and not as a weapon sight as my D-760's serve that purpose. I can't say enough about the pleasure I have had in dealing with Victor on my NV gear purchases. Now, if I can just talk myself into biting the bullet hard enough to spring for a thermal imaging scope!!! By the way, I am planning on another hog hunt with JagerPro next year.
