Hey Songdoger! I saw on one of your posts that you are 200' from the OH line? Have you have much luck with coyotes in the area? I usually hunt Mid MI, but am thinking of trying a relative's 120 acres off Exit 5 on 23.

I'm new to the board and maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I can't find an email address for you. Could you drop me an email?

hey willy im from southwestern michigan and i have been hunting coyotes for about three years .... im sixteen and i am a avid hunter ive been out at least 100 times and only called one coyote in .... i missed him and havent had another chance at another one ....
here in berrien county the coyotes are real hard to call in and they spend most of their time in town instead of the country side ... cant shoot them off trash cans although that would be fun !!!

I'm from SE Mich. and a rookie. Haven't had any luck yet, but I've only been out a few times, and I'm so green I don't even know if I'm doing it right. Sure would like to hear more about Mich, predator hunting.

Hello! I'm located down in Montrose which is about halfway between flint and saginaw.
I've been out about a dozen times this year and have taken 6 coyotes, all with a .223. Most of my hunting has been in the rosecity or west branch area. September and October were the best months but its been pretty slow lately. Did call in 2 cats in september but they were out of season. Talk about tough luck.

Hi guys, I'm also from Michigan, just south of Lansing. I have not had much luck yet this year either. I shot a nice big male coyote a couple weeks ago, that I am going to have tanned. but due to the weather latley,(frozen ice covered snow) it's been hard to sneak in on anything. I've called a couple in at night but they stayed out just far enought that the 12ga. couldnt reach them. I'm still trying for some red fox, that I called in earlyer in the season and my son missed. They have now got real smart...ha ha. It's nice to talk to other coyote hunter's from my area. Bob

I'm pretty much right in the middle of the mittin. New to coyotes and haven't had any luck yet. I attribute this to the unusually warm weather and the lack of snow. Now its colder than a well digger rear end and I havenb't been able to get out. I'm an avid bird hunter therefor the coyotes must go.

Northeastern Mich here, Oscoda area! This is my 2nd year, Nice to know we have lots of michiganders around. Hope to see ya at the netty Bay contest on Feb 14th

Locator, I've been getting a few, but there's quite a bit of mange here. I got zip the last two times out though. I felt lucky to have a Raven come to the call the last time that I was out. It seems that the coyotes ran the night before I went calling both times. The tracks in the fresh snow verified that. Maybe it's time to throw them a curve.

MI VHNTR, Where are you? I've been trying to call some in northern WI just across the river from Iron Mountain, but no luck.
What kind of license do you need in MI?
-Ost

ostdc, In Michigan there are several factors detirmining what type of license a Resident hunter would need.....
#1 Coyote may be hunted or trapped on private property at any time if they are doing or about to do damage, No license is required.
#2 All hunters using a .22 Cal rimfire rifle to take furbearing animals day or night from Nov.10-14th must have a fur harvesters license.
#3 All persons who hunt furbearing animals either private land or not must have a furhavester license.
EXCEPTION:See #1
Then it turns around and gets even more confusing, listed in the footnotes under predator hunting seasons item #6 states>>
Residents having a valid small game license may hunt coyote during the established season.
I would suggest that you carry a pocket lawyer with you if you decide to come into Mi. to hunt ESPECIALLY if your a non resident

Ost, I'm near Ishpeming, which is about 65 mi. from Iron Mountain. You can look up the MI DNR hunting rules at this site: http://www.dnr.state.mi.us
If the rules haven't changed from 2001, it'd be impossible for you to hunt in MI. Here is a quote from the 2001 regs: "Residents of Wisconsin, Minnesota, N. Dakota, S. Dakota, and the province of Ontario, Canada, cannot purchase a MI nonresident fur harvester license, because those states and that province prohibit MI residents from purchasing an equivalent license." It'd be best to check with the MI DNR about this. Perhaps they can make sense out of their own rules. Noone else can.

Hi guys, I live here in Jackson County. It's been a real tough year so far. The yotes are definatly around but man they are hard to get. I just went to a predator hunting seminar on the 26th. at Jay's. The host was Bob Bartz. He's from North Dakota but now lives in Mi. He told the audience that he's hunted all over the U.S. but believes that Michigan is the toughest state to call in a coyote. The reason he gave was pressure. Not just hunting pressure but people pressure. There's always someone in the woods and fields he stated. If it's not snowmobilers it's bunny hunters. If it's not hikers it's someone else. We have turned the coyote nocturnal almost completly. I would have to agree. I drive about 78 miles one way to work every day and I can count on one hand how many coyotes I've seen during the day in open fields in the past 6 years. Mr. Bartz also said that if you bag a coyote here in the lower it's like getting a Boon and Crokett Buck. Once again I agree! You really have to use every trick in the book to get one to come in to your call during daylight. Maybe it's just me though. He could not over emphasize how people call too loud and too often. Maybe that was my problem. I definatly need to cut down on the volume. Good luck to all of you.

Nice to see all the michigan yote gunners out there. Seems we all have about the same luck. I have been mildly successful at times, but my most frequent called in creature are housecats. I don't think that we have the animals and its hard to kill em ifn they aint there. The western guys have a big advantage on us Im afraid as to numbers. This yotin is a numbers game and I believe the numbers are not in our favor. I live about halway between Lansing and Wildman up there in Mt.Pleasant. Hunt alot over by Edmore to points slightly north of there.
