Any Ruger No. 1 fans?

I've owned 2 of them. One in .223 and another in 308. Neither were MOA rifles. I know there are things that can be done to improve their accuracy but I wasn't going to chase it down.

They are definitely beautiful rifles and I wouldn't mind owning another one just for the heck of it.

I was lucky with the three I had early on. I too heard they were not that accurate and known for stringing. The first three would shoot MOA. After I did some load development, the groups really tightened up. This new one is on shot. I have serious high hopes for it...

I shot one in 300 Win Mag for a number of years, it doted on Sierra 200gr Gamekings. It was more.rifle than I needed and it went to and elk hunter that made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I always thought that a 10/12 twist 219 Zipper No. 1 would be a fun rig for varmints.

I've also had a few and while they were very pleasing to the eyes the accuracy was just MEH. The last one was a 6mm and I tried several options to get it to shoot to no avail. Like the others, it went down the road. I love the rifle, not the lack of accuracy. Would I buy another.....probably if it was pretty. LOL!

I have a 257 Roberts that I really like, just havent shot it enough to really be able to testify to its accuracy. Sure feels and looks good, though. What little I have shot it,it seems to shoot reasonably well.

I have had several Ruger No. 1 rifles and a couple of Browning single shots. The Brownings were the better shooters. I had a No. 1 .243 heavy barrel that shot well and a No. 1 .30-06 sporter that with tailored handloads shoots well also. I dig them, they are classy and good looking to my eye but no doubt about it, they can be a pain in the butt.

Well I'm currently in line to have another No. 1 built. Can't decide between the 22 Creedmoor or 6mm CM. This would be another benchrest setup for PD's and wood chucks. I'm worried the 6mm will have just enough recoil so I won't be able to see kills or POI. That would leave me three options to knock the recoil down. Suppressor, brake or mercury tube. Don't really feel like putting out a huge chunk on a quality suppressor + $200 tax stamp! Brakes are just to loud. I think the tubes will accommodate my needs. With a 26-inch heavy barrel, steel base & rings with glass, I'm guessing this will be a 13-15 lb rifle..?? However, with all the research today, I really like the 22 CM. Rumor has it the 22 CM will be getting SAAMI'ed very soon.

I really like falling blocks. I saw that Winchester makes an 1885. I then discovered that was the original that Browning made? And heard that the popularly went down since. I also learned that Winchester manufacturers out of Europe now? Please don't quote me on that. I still like the falling block though.
