Any thoughts on JAKE traps?

I am a new trapper and do not want to mess around doing all the mods for coyote and these look good to go. I know they are expensive, but are they worth it? I heard the pan has to be readjusted after every trip, this seem like a downside to me.

Never used one to trap with but the guys I know that use them won't use anything else....Never heard of the readjusting after a catch...

I havent seen much talk about them and the talk i have heard has been good, but i thought much more people would be using them. Must be most like to mod their own traps i geuss?

I sent him a e-mail asking if they come with the pan tension set optimally for K9 and his wife responded the next day and said that they are not adjusted and that you have to re adjust after every catch/trip. She also said Jim carries a nut driver just for that purpose.

Thats new news to me HMR.... I know a guy in Ill. that it is the only trap he uses and I've never heard him mention that....

I do like to tinker a little. I have tried to streamline down to the Bridger 1.65OS and the #3OS. Every time I think I have it almost there I get a new bug...Tinkering with #3DLS, #4DLS, and the old #2 square jaw victors now...

I had a dozen and used them for several years. The only thing I ever did with them was dye and wax. Jakes are pricey but they also hold their value which is why I was able to sell mine and pick up a rifle I'd run across.

Did you sell them to switch brands?

Their are a lot of traps that work great and will hold a coyote time after time. Jake traps work as good as any I've used. So you cannot go wrong with them, you just have to pay a little extra for them. Another trap i like is the Minnesota Brand.

the Jake Trap is the best on the market, if your looking for a trap to use for coyotes and dont wont to pay the price of the jakes, take a look at the Montana Special #3's they are a dogless trap and once you get the pan tension set, it is there for ever. take a look at them and they are just as good as the jake in my oppinion.

That looks good, but NY has a 5-3/4" jaw limit

Is that inside or outside spread???? Then Montana's I have are 5.5 inside jaw spread. Ohio has a 5 5/8th inside spread limit, and the Montana is ohio legal the jake isnt if you go by the the way the law is written

I agree Bridgers #2 and #3 are top notch.
I believe it is inside spread.

Was using Jakes and MB650s on my cat and coyote line and decided I wanted to run with one brand of trap. I'd had them for about 10 years, they had paid for themselves several times over. Plus I wanted to pick up another rifle that the dozen traps would cover.
