Any tips for keeping stickers out of dogs ears?

I hunt my dog in the summer for deer, and occasionally have to take him in to get stickers pulled out from inside his ears. It is uncomfortable for him and my checkbook, and I was wondering if anyone had any tricks of preventing them or getting them out yourself.

fluffy ear muffs! haha, im just kiddin ya. I dont know how you would go about keeping them out, but pulling them your self shouldnt be a problem. Get some tweezers, and get after it. If you miss any, and they abscess, then take a clean steril needle, and use it to draw it out. Iodine will also help do draw the sliver out enough to get it with tweezers, or may even draw it out enough that it falls out.

I have had some people tell my to coat the inside of their ears with pine tar, but that just seems stupid to me.

I have ear scope to get the stickers and debris, but was wondering if anybody had an idea for a flush type product that works well at loosening stuff up and cleaning him out.

I have never had "stickers in a dogs ears" what exactly are you talkin about??? Seeds?
maybe stick "tampons" in the dogs ears??
He would be deaf, but the "stickers" woudn't get in.

What kind of dog? And what do the stickers look like?We have a weed seed around here that is similar looking to wheat. It's long and slender, kinda like rice, but with a 1 or 2 inch hair-like fiber out one end. They can get in a dogs eye.I've pulled several out of my dogs eyes. They get amazingly deep.Along the eyelid,I mean. Not into the eyeball. If they got in their ears,it would be bad I think.

Here in Calif. we have what is called foxtails they are bad they just keep working their way in deeper & deeper (nose, ears, ect) I'm thinking thats what he is talking about The only way to keep them out of your dog is to stay away from them just spent $75.00 getting one out of my dogs ear

Ya, foxtails out here can get imbedded and kill dogs with the infections of just drill into their ear drums and make them lose hearing. The are real easy to pull out in the beginning, but if left unattended, they work their way into a bad spot very quickly. I bought an ear scope that will help me look into his ears to at least identfy the problem.
