Any Wolves

Anybody out there had any luck calling in a wolf? Do you think a wolf would get curious about a coyote howl and screaming rabbit, or would the howls dicourage them from coming in?

On a hunt in northern BC I was calling moose and brought in a pack of 12 wolves. My partner watched them for about 15 minutes coming in from a long way off. I had no idea. When I heard the splashing in the creek below me I thought it was a moose coming in, then I stood up and saw them and just about peed my pants.I got one shot off at the trail wolf and missed. Two more passed by me in the buck brush close enough to look into their eyes(3 steps to be exact). I could hear the others but not see them. They ran out past my partner and he missed as well. It was a very surreal experience and I can still see the whole thing in my mind. I'm glad it wasn't a grizzly or I would have been lunch.

All I can say is they've got the better of me so far. I guess I need a trainer or something... Howls, coyote howls, yelps, deer bawls, rabbit squeals: Butkiss

Bloodtrail, re: wolf pix-hunting sites...you might surf the internet as there should be many AK guides who'd take you out. Don't know running prices but most people here with brains know that wolves are taking over the place and need some comeuppance. Real men want Old Yellow Eyes thinned out. The non-hunter types think Old Yellow Eyes is the symbol of the wilderness and prefer to see him saved. Even if they allowed hunting, it would be on foot in the thick timber. Anyone who knows anything about wolves, knows that you'll be fortunate to see one in the timber, let alone hunt him. Virtually all wolves I've seen in AK since 1966 were above tree line. If you can't find any guides, let me know and I might be able to hook you up with a friend who's defunctoed many a wolf. Skylar Bear
