Just got a email saying I won the monthly drawing for a hog hunt. 3 days and 2 nights, food and lodging included. Two hogs and varmint hunting. $90.00 booking fee and you have to pay for meat processing. I have 14 days to book the hunt for this or next year. Quite the ways to go but we lack hogs in Wisconsin. Appreciate your input....Thanks, Luder....

Check the various Texas hunting boards. ..the guy has...er....quite the reputation. I've never been, but I moved on past that outfit pretty quickly when doing my research. But who knows. ..the price might be right since it's a "free" hunt?

I don't know if it is the same place but I did a little figuring on something similar a while back. They put you in a blind over looking a hog feeding station that is complete with lights for night hunting. It shouldn't take you more than a few minutes to kill your two free hogs. If the hogs are any size you will probably find the prossessing fees will add up in a hurry. Then you have lot of time before your plane home to shoot all the hogs you want at full price plus processing fees. It sounded a little rich for my budget, your mileage may vary.

To give you an idea on processing fees and I am not sure how this compares with other, but my area I pay 65.00 and they skin, gut, and process. Process includes full butcher to include sausage. Everything is plastic wrapped and then packaged in butcher paper. Although, I am sure theirs will be higher.

I won a hog hunt at Independence Ranch for 3 days and 2 nights at a fund raising banquet. When I looked into the details, the hog hunt was not as advertised on the gift certificate. The sportsmen organization that offered the hog hunt returned what I had bid on it at their auction and they are no longer sponsoring hog hunts at Independence Ranch.

Here are some of the requirements.

Independence Ranch does not allow hunting hogs with a 223 caliber rifle UNLESS you use the non-lead ammo that they require which cost about $42.00 for 20 rounds.

You are limited to hunting with 3 rounds total in your gun and they charge you $50 for each hog you cannot recover.

There is a $100 guiding fee per hunter.

No hunting at night after 9:45pm.
