just wondering if anyone calls these guys in, i guess you would need em to have all the north american predators just curious would appreciate any stories if you got em

We have kitfox around here. They make greys look like Einsteins. I've never bothered to shoot one myself, but I have chased them down and stepped on their tails. One night I took a couple of new guys out calling. One guy shot 6 kitfox on one stand before I made him quit.

Besides the Reds and Gray's here in CO, we also have the Swift Fox, as well.
The Swift fox only occurs east of the Rocky Mtns. and has a northern subspecies (Vulpes velox hebes) and a southern subspecies (Vulpes velox velox).

Called about a million kit fox in my life, well maybe not that many but alot lol.
Kit fox, Swift fox, both look the same and in many circles are the same.
I don't think I'll ever call in an Artic fox because I'm not going where they live.
Gray fox I've called many, Red fox I've called one and Island fox I've never seen.
Oh...I almost forgot, I've seen alot of blond foxes at the beaches in Southern California. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Did someone call me?

I live in an area that has a decent population of Kit Foxes, and when I start calling again, I plan on bringing my digital camera to "shoot them." I'll save the real bullets for Coyotes.

My friend told me, that when he calls at night time, the Kit Foxes won't leave him alone.

Called a truck load of Kits and Greys. Only called in one Red, because there are few left in Texas(at least were I hunt). The only red I ever heard about was from a good friend, I called it and Jeff shot it, wish it was a better story but thats all I got. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Greys can get smart with alot of pressure from stupid hunters, but for the most part are complete idiots. Kits or Swifts are even worse, but can get a little smarter than a fence post if the wrong person calls them and shoots at em with a sling shot.

Seriously I have seen greys as smart as coyotes and have had em sniff my tires. Same goes for all game, it all depends on what has happened in their life prior to you being in it. If left alone they can have a death wish, if messed with they can give you a headache.

take care,

Todd

I lived in the Arctic where the Arctic fox lived but never shot one, worked on grey fox as a graduate research project, shot a few red fox and just last night had three Swift fox frolicking not 50 feet from my camper. I was up hunting northern Montana where Swift fox have recently been re-introduced. It appears they are doing well as I saw 4 on this trip.
