Bass Pro has the Remington 799 in a 22-250 and .223 on clearence for 330.00. They are a cute little gun and I was wondering if anyone has shot them. They are a Mauser style action, not true Mauser, that was built by a over-seas company and sold under Remington. They have a nice blueing on them and a laminated stock. Barrel lenght is only 20" and they weigh 6.5 lbs. I thought I might buy one and see how it does? I don't expect a whole lot out of it but if you have shot one or messed with one, I would like your opinion. Brent

They used to be marketed by Interarms as the Mini Mk X, and then by Charles Daly as the Mini Mauser. I've heard they're decent shooters. The 7.62x39 variety are being used to build Grendel bolt rifles.

I have one (sold as a Charles Daly Interarms Mini-Mauser unbarreled action in 1998]that has been barreled up with a Douglas Premium XX [22 inches; #3 Contour] in .223 Remington.

I love the rifle; killed 2 groundhogs tonight with it, many more than that with it this season... and last. They are made by Zastava (company) in the former Yugoslavia (now Serbia?).

The Burris 4-12X Compact scope I have on it is just the perfect small scale size for this compact rifle.

The factory barrels arre perhaps so so in accuracy, but have it re-barrelled later....! You won't find a similarly downscaled small action walking varminter unless you buy a Sako L461 (no longer made) or a Browning Micro-Bolt Hunter. This has a great original trigger that I really like, also.

I say offer $350 and see what happens...it is worth that...one of the best carry bolt rifles for the smaller calibers from 17 to .223 and the 7.62 x 39 (depending on which bolt size you are getting..).

Thanks Buckeye, I may end up buying both of them at Bass Pro. $ 330.00 sounds pretty cheap for the rifle. Thanks again, Brent

Brent- I went with a friend to his range a while back and a guy was shooting one in 22-250. I stopped to look at it. It seemed to be a nice rifle and fairly accurate. He was shooting factory stuff I think and from what I could tell, shooting good. One thing I did notice, it was LOUD!!

I've had a Mini Mark X since 1994. Had to buy a barreled action & fit a Boyds stock. Must have gotten it right, because the little 223 will consistently shoot 3/4" groups @ 100 meters, and, if I'm shooting well I can drop those 3 shot groups into 3/8".
I may need to buy another, as my brother "borrowed" mine about nine years ago LOL!!!
Mark
