Anyone here ever combined deer/coyote hunting?
Today was the first day of 2nd shotgun season here in Iowa and I'm hunting out of a tree stand and I was considering taking my little electronic caller out with me each afternoon so when I get into the stand I can let loose a few calls to start off with just to see what might happen. There are definitely coyotes in the area and I'd happily down a yote first and foremost, I've already got my "meat" deer for the year when I shot a small doe during an early "bonus" season over Thanksgiving w/e and I don't really care if I ever get a buck or not, I'll take a really nice wallhanger buck if I get lucky enough to have one come in on me or I'll just shoot another "meat" doe to pass off to my buddies who want some more deer meat. (I'm not antler crazy by any means, as a matter of fact I've never shot a buck)
I figure if I don't see anything the first 15-20 minutes with the caller, I'll just shut it off and settle in for a chance at a deer. I go to get into my stand about 3:15-3:30 each day so I'd think the timing would be good for possibly getting a yote to come in to me. Just curious if anyone else has done this and I wondered if the calls might affect the deer at all, not that it would really matter all that much to me if it did.
Thanks,
Trevor
