This is what I have to say about this wonderful little cartridge.
I did not see a report as I expected in the beginning of my load development, as it turned out I have a defective scope on my gun and once we over came that issue, this cartridge has made a worshiper out of this mule.
As far as accuracy potential, I would say it's very close to the 6mmBR, so close that you would NOT be able to see the difference in a live varmint rig.
But, what really impressed me about this cartridge is the abulity to push the a 70g bullets 18% faster then it’s predecessor with only 10% increase in powder charge, that tells me, it’s a very efficient. One other thing I like to point out is the Lapua brass is very tough, with it’s small primer pocket not once in my experiment we saw signs of excessive pressure, at least not the normal signs I’m familiar with (crater, flatten primer, enlarged base, enlarged primer pocket etc).
So far I’ve done Experiment with 58, 65, 68, 70, 87 and 90g bullets from a variety of makers, the ones are working for me is 38g of N135 push the 70g Berger MEF, measure 10’ from muzzle 4-5 shot string avg. 3790, with single digit ES and SD to boot. Capacity wise is a tap pass the shoulder.
I also plan on shooting the 87g Vmax at the longer range, I don’t have the daylight or the weather to make it to the range where I can shoot pass 300yds right now, but I have excellent report with 36.8g of R-15 behind the 87 Vmax, 4x 5-shot avg 10' from muzzle is 3567 fps, each 5 shot formed a cute little clusters, to me that’s phenomenon for 300yds.
I would take this over the 243win. based on the principle its accuracy potential is comparable to the 6BR and plus its very efficient(read longer barrel life……… in theory anyway) for a varmint rig.
