Anyone load for Remington 700 in .223?

Howdy,

Does anyone load for a Rem 700, 24", and 1/12 twist? What about the 20" in 1/9 twist? I have always loaded for the AR-15 platform so a .223 Rem chamber is new for me.

I was curious what powders and bullets y'all use...

Thanks!

I have found the same with 55gr VMAX. Usually b/t 25.0-25.5 gr is the sweet spot with a 55gr in a Rem 700. Work up to this load as it's on the top end.

I've had great luck with Benchmark and H4895 with 50gr bullets, with 55 or 60 gr bullets I find Varget works best.

I've used these loads in both 1/12 and 1/9 twist barrels.

Rem 700 trued short action, 1:12 twist, 24" Black Star Barrel, 1.5 oz Jewell trigger - 27.0 grains CFE 223 with 52 grain Berger - 0.274" groups at 100 yards indoors occasionally. I can usually count on 1/2" or less groups at 100 yards indoors. Outside with mild wind conditions - always sub-moa.

24.5 grains of VV N-133 will do the same - just a tad larger for the smallest expected group, which is 0.378"

Trued action - Match grade, hand lapped barrel - Jewell trigger - high magnification quality scope is almost a prerequisite for consistent bug hole shooting - just my opinion of course.

Benchmark and 53gr Vmax have served me well in my Rem 700 LTR w/20in 9tw barrel.

A few years ago I was in a sporting goods place and I don't know if they had it mismarked or if it was their regular price but they had 1 lb'ers of Hodgdon Benchmark for $18 it seemed like a very good deal so I filled up my shopping cart. Now I pretty much have a lifetime supply of Benchmark so I use it for all bullets 55 gr and lighter in 223's.

A few of us are running the 55g Noslers and 53g v max at 3475-3500 with Hot charge of benchmark and a cci 450 seals the deal on accuracy, NON military brass, REm Win, and SIG...Rem sporters with factory barrels achieving 3/8" or better in bedded rifles.

I love the 53gr Vmax and been shooting them since they first hit the market they are hands down my favorite 22 caliber bullet.

3031 is a great 223 powder, after Herter's powders went away it was my goto in the 223 in the 70's, 80's and 90's, loading 2230/Exterminator now. I'm saving the 3031 for some of my antique rounds that have load data for them.

Blc2 or 748 27.5 grs. 50gr ballistic tip bullet. I’ve shot this load in 6 different 223 700s and has produced excellent results.
