Anyone make a rangefinder that actually works...

in the desert for prairie dogs?

I have a Nikon and it works fine with something the size of my Ford F-150 but on prairie dogs, sage brush and small cactus it won't work at all.

What do you guy's suggest?
Maybe a non laser rangefinder(don't even know if one is made).

Thanks for any suggestions!

If you find one I want to know about it too. A few years I killed 4 prairie dogs at 680-705 yards but the only way I could tell the yardage as to go to where the dead dogs were and laser back to hunting partner's big white Dodge 4X4. I still have that rangefinder but when the dogs get WAY out there I have no clue as to just how far they really are. Meh. No biggie I suppose. Once they are for sure a ways out there it's a lot of luck just hitting them anyway. At least for me it is.

Probably the best one you can get for the money.
A buddy has one and it works great.

Have your partner drive the rig around and you range him from where your going to be shooting from. Pain in the bass and not exact, but if it's a large good town better than nothing. Leica makes very good stuff, probably worth the money. Got a pair of their bino's about 30 years ago for opening an account at a new bank. Thought what's this garbage-till I looked through them.

i would say the G7 is one that will work better than most of us here could shoot. If you wanna see it in action watch a youtube video from Gun Werks. Those guys are mating their rifles, with highend (typically nightforce) scopes and then creating laser etched target turrets. Range, dial, wind call, breath, squeeze and collect your trophy. (hypothetically it should work that way)

I have a swear jar, every time i swear I put a dollar in the jar and hope to use it someday to go to their long range shooting school.

I ranged p-dogs that were under me from a hilltop at 890yds. I'm not going to tell you that it was the dog that reflected it but I got readings from their mounds. It took two shots to hit that one.{wind}
We next picked a mound that was 1198yds. with just about a 5mph wind. I have witnesses. One shot tossed that dog. The rifle was 6.5x284 made for long distance's. I ranged them with my
Swarovski EL 10 power. I'll trust Swaro's.

They actually worked A LOT better than pretty good, they're OUTSTANDING!!! The only thing that works better than a Terrapin, is a higher level Vectronix model. Problem is, they stopped making the Terrapin model well over a year ago so you'll have to either find a used one and good luck with that or step up to the PLRF10.

Vectronix laser rangefinders are VERY expensive but they have no equal because these things work crazy good!

This is the one I have and love it! Best bang for your buck in my opinion.

Yup. I just got a pair of Leica 10X42 HD-B's that are supposed to be 2000 yard technology but I haven't had a chance to try them on the flat ground yet. Hoping they get the job done to several hundred yards.

I saw one range past 3000 yards on a good target.
