Anyone tried Superformance ELD-X 73gr in 223?

I was curious what speed it was producing in a 20" barrel, what accuracy was like with what twist barrel, and how it performs on coyotes. The .398 BC and 2910fps velocity look impressive if it works on coyotes well. Thanks.
 
Well I tried it. I got an average of 2785fps in my 20" DPMS Prairie Panther 1 in 8 twist rifle. They shot exceptionally well. The largest of the four 5 shot groups I fired, the one with the Magnetospeed chronograph attached, was just under .5". Not bad for a picnic table bench and Leupold 3.5-10x scope! I will give them a shot on coyotes and see how they do. Reading reviews on Midway people say they open well on smaller varmints so I'm hopeful. They shoot flatter than the 55gr V max at 2964fps I have been using and drift less in the wind. Their ballistics fit my reticle pretty well also.
 
Sorry I keep typing ELD-X out of habit. This bullet is the ELD-M, not the hunting version. I have been shooting the 143gr ELD-X in my 264 win mag.

I didn't save the targets, never really thought about it. I was shooting 3 other rifles too, I just marked the holes from each gun and kept shooting. I was as surprised as you that the rifle shot so well. It shot the old 55gr V max RAM ammo really well but I've tried a lot of loads through this rifle it did not like. Even other ammo with the same 55gr V max it didn't like very well. The barrel is stock but has been lapped and the trigger has been replaced with a 2lb trigger.
 
I have a box of these but haven't shot them yet. If they shot as well as their 75gr bthp then they should shoot really well. The last group I had with the 75gr I had four shots at .41in and my first cold bore shot was the only one not touching to open the group to .901in. If you shoot a coyote with the 73gr eld let us know how it does and how it treats the fur.
 
I shot 3 different loads at 200 yds with the 73 ELD-M in my 20" 1/8 AR. Snow, wind and chrono left behind, the steel plate had 4 shots hit the same spot, with #5 above about 3/4". This load was 22.8 gr of 8208. H4895 was a disappointment, CFE 223 shows promise, all with 205M primers and once fired FC 223 brass, loaded to mag length. The weather will prevent meaningful tests for now.
 
I ordered a 200 round case of them that should be in this week. I hope to get them tried on a coyote this week or next weekend. I'm going to shoot water bottles and jugs at various ranges this week to see now they expand. I'll also try to shoot paper and make sure I'm zeroed right for my 300 yard crosshair to work at 300 yards. I want my 300yd crosshair to be just right and the other ones should fit the ballistics of this load pretty well past that. I'll shoot steel to be sure. I seldom need to reach past 300 yards calling, even that far is rare. This late in the year it happens more often than earlier though. More coyotes hanging up further out and more pairs taking a longer shot at a second one when it stops.

If everything goes as planned I'll be loading the AR with these for a contest next weekend and sure hope to get them tried on fur.
