Anyone use an ACE Skeleton stock?

Right now I have a Magpul PRS stock on my 24" Bushy Varmint Special. It is a nice stock, but I have the length adjusted out all the way and the cheek riser almost flush with the stock. To me, it seems kinda a waste to have a $200+ stock that I don't really use the features.

I'm looking at the ACE Skeleton stock to replace it. I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about theirs. Do they balance well with a long heavy barrel? Do they save much weight? Right now my AR is heavy.

Please let me know what you guys think of yours.

I have 2 Ace stocks on black guns. One has a 22" heavy barrel and it is somewhat front heavy. Another has a 20" medium barrel and balances nicely. Seems to be durable and lots of guys on here show pics of their guns with the Ace stock.

The difference in the weight compared to an A2, IMHO is negligible... I don't know about the length difference with the MagPul...

Almost any AR with a bull barrel (20"+) will feel a little front heavy from what I've experienced.

For long range shooting, that's not a bad thing though.. Even rested on shooting sticks, you shouldn't notice it.. I know one of my fellow competition shooters loaded his A2 stock with a lead weight with a bull barrel for better balance....It made the whole thing a lot heavier that I would want to swing around all day long..

Here is one with a 20" barrel. This is very well balanced.

I would love to have the Magpul PRS on my 24 in RRA rather than the standard A2. I think the Ace would feel a bit more muzzle heavy than what you have now.

There isn't much your going to do to change the weight without some serious machining. I found the best thing to do was to sit in front of the TV and do several curling reps to get my arms and shoulders stronger. Mine doesn't feel as heavy as it once did.

hitman2565: I like your new LeadSled. I'm considering one for my AR-15. PM me with your opinion if you would.
Thanks
Jim

I had one I got with my Rock River Arms Coyote gun. I have since replaced it with a collapsable stock instead. It was taken to the range only once to sight in the scope before changing out the stock.

I will sell for $60 shipped UPS in excellent condition if you are interested. Send a PM.

I use an Ace on my coyote/deer gun. I like it for hunting but it sucks at the bench. It comes down to a point with the sling stud installed on the point, so it does not ride bags or any kind of rest well at all. I got bored the other day and cut a piece of walnut to fit it so it'll make about a 3" long flat surface down there.

I think the PRS is an excellent benchrest stock, but I agree with you that the adjustable cheek rest is a bit pointless on an AR-15, where you're probably wishing you could mount the scope lower but can't.

A compromise would be to check out the AR-15 E2 stock that several people sell. It has the flat surface at the bottom that would ride bags well but no adjustable buttplate or cheekrest.

I use the Ace for a carry gun when calling and love it. Each to your own. Good shooting, ET /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am considering putting one on my 243 WSSM AR. I am hopeing it will lighten it a bit, and maybe get rid of the spring spronggg. I am also thinking maybe a pnematic buffer.

I'm in the process of building an aluminum rail for my RRA (coyote) rifle. It has the Ace on it as standard equipment and I don't like the way it (rides) the back bag either! I figure on having a quick clamp set-up so the bottom is parallel to the top of the stock when shooting on the bench. Hunting I can take it off.
I'll post pics when I get it done! Jerry

Blind dog,

You can get rid of the SPROINGGGGGG by putting some heavy grease inside the buffer tube.

I tried some wheelbearing grease maybe a tablespoon distributed evenly.
