Anything good to say about weaver scopes?

I have been looking at a weaver classic v series 4x12x42 with fine crosshairs and dot in middle anybody shoot these ? thinking about putting on 220 swift to shoot coyotes/bobcats with..

I didn't know they made a 4-12. I have used many of the v siries in the 4-16 and a few of the 6-24 and they have been great. I have 8 of the 4-16 and have sold many for use on AR-15 and have never had any complaints. I think they are one of your better "bang for you buck" in scopes.

I agree with Mike, they are good for the money. Have bought, used, sold, many of them. 2.5x20, 3-9x38, 2-10x38, and 4-16x42 with no problems. Have never heard of a 4-12x.

Don't own any, all mine are Leopolds. However, My dad had a 3x9 he bought in the late 40s. In 1992 he sent it back to be repaired and they replaced it. FREE. I was impressed.

jmark-- I'm glad you started this thread. I'm seriously considering the V16 on my new 204 this spring. Glad to hear all the positive returns you're getting. Thanks.

I really like my v16, weaver makes a great scope, I don't think its quite as good as an elite or leupold but certainly a great scope for the money. If you look carefully ebay sometimes has used v16's for around $200. I would steer you away from the fine crosshairs. My v16 orginally came with these, they were so fine they would wash out on most backgrounds in sunlight. I had the reticle changed to duplex and couldn't be more happy.

JB,
Will let you gander through my weaver 6-24 with mil-dots while i'm there next weekend.. it's the one on my 6mmBR.

I,ve got a weaver 4-16x42 pa on my hornet, with dual x crosshair, and i think its a fabulous sight, tracks well, and does everything it should. The optics are excellent for the price, would not hesitate to buy another.

You might also look at the Weaver Grand Slam. I recently put a 6x24x40 with varmint reticle on a 223 and love it. Works great at night under a light too.

I've had 5 V-16's and am down to two now. They are a "Best Buy" from where I sit. I had several on springer air rifles and they stood up against the abusive recoil that they give a scope. The glass is good too.

I have a 2x10 on my Rem 700 .17. No complaints here. I look at them often. I looking at the 2x pistol scopes for my Contender now. Burris is also a fine scope. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The only weaver I ever had that I didn't like was a 2.5-8x pistol scope. I'm not a short guy and had to stretch my arms way out to get good eye relief. It had the worst eye relief of any pistol scope I've seen

I bought my first Weaver in 1966, a K-4, I still have it and it's still putting venison in the freezer. Since then I've put a K-2.5, a K-3's, a K-6, a V-4.5, and a V-10 on rifles from .218 Bee to .358 N. Mag and haven't been able to break one yet. Only the K-6 on a custom 722/257 Robt. has departed. These scopes have ridden alot of different rifles, I sell or trade the guns but keep the scopes. I'm looking forward to trying a new V-7.

We still shoot the 2.5-8x that my Dad received for Christmas 1962 with his Savage 99 in .308. 43 years later it is still dry, tight and clear. Todd

The 2-10x is very versatile and we have beat some up pretty good also with no problems. If I were limited on cash and wanted the best scope for my money this one would be very hard to beat. As stated, I have owned, sold, traded many of them and still know most of the people who have them. I'm talking at minimum a dozen of them--no problems. No matter how many I trade away, it seems I still end up owning one somehow. Shot my last deer with one on my muzzleloader back in December-3-9x38.

Steve Garrett-- Can you compare the fine x-hairs of the Weaver to the Leupold for me? I've not had the problem you mentioned above with my 6-18 Leupold. Have you used both under similar circumstances at one time or another? I'm thinking V16 is the one for sure. Just curious.

I have a Weaver V16 (4X16) on a browning 25-06. It is a great scope, but I would stay away from the fine cross hair with the 1/8 min dot. I originally had this reticle and it was a very poor choice for low light conditions. The good news was that they replaced this reticle to a standard 30-30
for free.
