Applying Red Dykem

Anybody have any secrets for applying Red Dykem to your spots. I got an aersol can of it and applied it one of my spots last night and it fogged out in the middle. The edges seem to be clear. did I use to much paint. I tried to go sparingly.

Btw, that stuff sent me for loop. I applied in my closed up garage and sprayed it for about 10 seconds and my head was spinning.

I had the same problem . Usually when it was cold. Clean and reapply or maybe try another coat. Or just leave it as is. Probably wont affect it as much as you think it will.

I hope this is not a dumb question, but can red dykem be taken off after applied? I would like to use it but only temporarily. I don't want my spotlight red forever. I didn't know if maybe it was just a filmy covering that can peel off, kinda like elmer's glue. Or if it is more like paint.

Here is the REd Dykem.

Here is the remover. Never used it myself. I do know the stuff is a pain to get off when not using it.

Has anyone tried to put the tailight lens repair tape on a spotlight? I use it on headlights it works well, is cheap and you can peel it off. I don't know how hot these lights you are using get it may melt.

Some lights get pretty hot. Especially when your running them nonstop 15-30 minutes. You might look in to some Filter film used on stage /theatrical lights. Should be able to stand up to the heat.

I did take my hand held spot light and tape it last night, it held up fine. Made five sets no luck. It's cold here and I don't run it continueous; I would but haven't figured out how to hold everything. I think the tail light lens repair tape would work for a lot of guys. My .02 worth.

Cotty, acetone takes it off in a heartbeat.

Just make sure your lens is glass and not plastic. acetone will melt and haze most hard clear plastics and acrylics.

I bought a large roll of red celophane craft plastic for around three bucks and a bag of large rubber bands at office supply for less than a dollar. It's not perfect but it works pretty well, comes off easy too.

The Dykem remover does work well. It aint majic, but with a little scrubbing and 2-3 minutes it will be as good as new. It really depends on how thick you coat it and how long its been on.
