ar-15 build

This has probably been asked before. I am building my first ar. I ordered some stripped lowers, just wondering what kinda barrel, and trigger assembly everyone prefers?

Congrats on deciding to build your own. It is definitely the way to go and is simple with a few pretty basic tools. As far as the barrel and trigger assembly goes, what kind of shooting are you planning to do with it (hunting, plinking, target) and what kind of accuracy do you expect to get?

Thanks guys. I am mainly going to use it for coyotes, with the occasional deer or antelope. I have a friend that was in the military that did say today that he would help me with the build. He also said that he has all the tools needed to do the project. Now just to decide what I want to put on this gun. I like very small groups, what can I expect from an ar?

I love the geissle triggers.

Get a 20 practical bbl if you want to have something unique that uses 223 brass. my smallest 3 shot was .061. 39sbk 3850 fps out of my white oak upper with pacnor bbl

Do you reload? That could be the biggest deciding factor for caliper. What kind of a budget do you have? I would give Ritch Johnson a call and chat with him. You can’t go wrong with an upper or barrel from him.

I do reload. We are getting ready to move, so my budget right now is very small. Just until we are settled. Thanks for the info zr600

I did a Green Mountain GM-18 barrel on mine and it has shot everything I put through it very well especially for AR standards. I put a Velocity 3 lb trigger in it and really like it too (breaks at 2.75 lb on my scale). If you order the velocity trigger, get it from wcarmory.com especially if you are still needing a lower parts kit. For $130 he will send you the trigger and an Anderson parts kit for free with free shipping. For an extra $10 he will upgrade it to a CMMG lower parts kit. Since I did mine, I have had several buddies install the velocity triggers and they are equally as happy.

I run Lucas LF3 triggers on my guns. Nice single stage, clean break. I have used DC machine barrels, E.R. Shaw and McGowen with great success.
