There is a local gun dealer around this area selling DPMS Panther lite flat top OR carry handle with the numbers
#RFA2-L16 and #RFA3-L16 for $599,,,my question is can different uppers work WELL on this lower and is this a good price and is this gun worth the money? i know the 16" barrel is very loud and i will lose some velocity but i would only like a 300 YD gun anyway,,, and if so should i get the flat top or carry handle model,,i would be using it for coyotes and just letting the kids burn some powder through it,,so i will want a scope on it,,so i know the flat top is for a scope but i have seen scopes on the carry handle model and i kind of like the carry handle look,,,I also would like to get a .204 upper from D-Tech and use on it too,,and would like .243 WSSM AR-15 also and i have been told that the 243WSSM upper wouldnt fit this gun so i guess i would just have to get a specific gun if i want the 243 WSSM caliber so i was wondering where could i get an
AR-15 in 243 WSSM that is a great shooter and if any member here has ACTUALLY owned/shot any of these models could i get some feed back onthese guns/calibers
Thank you very much
Bob

I havent heard anything bad about them bob, but I dont own one myself. I am really looking hard at the pantherbull 20 w/ fluted barrel. Just have to save up the bucks to get it.

Yes. I like the DPMS. I have had several of them (in .223 and one in .308) and have no problem recommending them. I would suggest the A3 (flattop) over the A2 because you are planning on putting on the scope. You can mount a scope on an A2, but it will not be as accurate. The scope (line of sight) will be higher over the bore. It would give you the same point of impact at a set distance, but I think the A2 would be off at a different distance. IMHO

You can change out uppers with others for different calibers/ barrel lengths/ accessories. I am looking at getting a Dtech .204 upper also. There should be no reason that you couldn't switch uppers (in the .223 size, some cartidges require a larger magwell.... .308).

Recommend... DPMS, and then get a nicer drop in trigger, like a RRA 2 stage from WOA. Have fun and realize that this will be the first on many EBR that you will own.

I just got mine, So far I love it. I am taking it out tomorrow to burn a few rounds so I will have to let you know.

I personally have a Rock River Arms AR-15 myself so I can't really say anything about DPMS good or bad. I know two guys at work that built their own AR's and they used mostly DPMS parts. They're both very happy with them.

If you're going to put a scope on it go with the flat top upper receiver. You can always mount a carry handle on it later if you want. You can get a scope mount that mounts on top of the carry handle but the scope will be awful high. The iron sights alone are 2.5 inches above the bore. A scope mounted on the carry handle will be even higher!

is this a reasonable price and would the 16" barrel be ok,,i figure it would be a fast pointer,,and i know,,very loud and i lose some velocity so would this make a good
300 YD gun AND doesnt someone make a removable carry handle for the AR-15 flat tops? and i have heard about the Evil Black Rifle syndrome /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gifand your probably right that i WILL catch the EBR sickness BUT i am looking forward to it,,MY WIFE ISN'T but i am /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thank you again guys

Sounds like a reasonable price and yes, you can get a carry handle.

You might want to call Mike Milli at D-Tech and talk to him before you buy. He'll be able to give you the straight scoop and make good suggestions on where to start and what your options are.

ohiobob,

If you go to DPMS website the MSRP is $720.00 for that gun but dealer price would be less. Price of $599.00 isn't that bad. The lower and upper recievers from DPMS are of good quality you will not be disappointed in the fit and finish. As far as the 16" barrel goes some prefer it, as for me 20" is as short as I will go. I built an AR-17 using DPMS lower, Rock River flat top upper, free float hand gaurd, 20" 17 Rem. barrel from Noveske rifle works. Picture posted in photo gallery under name Test. I plan on building another rifle in the 25 WSSM using an Oly SUM barrel and the same parts used on the AR-17. Good luck with your new tool you will probably want another one after getting the first.

I have a target crown 16" .223 ar-15 I built. I have been shooting a .17 Rem in a 21" barrel TC contender and this is louder than the 16" .223. The .17rem is a lot sharper bang then the .223 cal. I also got the target crown because I didn't want the muzzle flash/brake on the end as this adds a lot of bang to the ears when shooting without ear plugs such as hunting. The 16" .223 without any muzzle brake is very managable noise.

I have one of DTECH's .243 WSSM uppers. It should fit on any standard mil-spec AR-15 Lower so I don't see why it wouldn't fit on a DPMS lower. It shoots like a laser beam and hits coyotes like a hammer. I had plans to own one lower and change uppers to suit my different shooting situations but just ended up with three complete rifles. A word of advise. Get a lower with a 2-stage trigger for the .204 and WSSM, it helped my accuracy. Also get a high quality long range scope for the WSSM, it is capable of some long range shooting.

Mine has a 16" bull barrel, Bushnell 3200 scope, Hogue grip, and 2 1/2# Jard trigger. At 100 yds, it'll put 3 rds in one ragged hole. Needless to say, I think a DPMS is a heck of a gun. Jim

I started my current collection with a DPMS 16" bull barrel and then had a .204 upper made. They both interchange well, but as you know with the EBR disease... I had to have a new lower to go with the .204, then it was a Colt, and then I won a shorty with a collapsable stock,,, But my DPMS is still my favorite. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I built a 16" LW AR on a DPMS lower and I'm quite pleased with it. The DPMS parts will accept any mil-spec AR-15 parts with no problem. MI VHNTR
