i have about 800.00 or 900.00 for ar-15 i was going to use it for yotes ,bobcats maybe even cougar. i seen a guy take down a cougar with a 223. have a 243 as well. need some recommendations and places to look for this gun. give me some advice. is this enough to get a good gun or should i save more.

That will be plenty, I'd get a DPMS Sportical for a first rifle and then once you've got the sickness you can start reasearching and decide where to buy you second, third, four, and so on...

Look through the AR-15 forum on here and learn a little more about the rifle. There are TONS of things to consider when buying one. As far as price, it varies but for 800-900 you could pick up something "decent" but then have to buy scope mount and scope. Look at gunbroker and just browse through and you'll see the price swings and all the different styles there are.

I'll probably catch all kinds of crap here but look at Model 1 Sales, I have a mid-length 16 in that I freefloated the barrel and it shoots 55gr Blitzkings 1/2in @ 100 yards. The stripped lower I used is a Sabre Defence.

I lied, I got mine from M & A Parts.

My very first AR was a 20" standard rifle kit from Model 1 Sales, and it was a 1/2" shooter with pretty much anything I fed it... I wouldn't be scared to buy a lower and get a kit from anyone that uses E.R. Shaw barrels, for a starter rifle. You'll want a more expensive one later...

I would look at a Rock River Arms Std a2 or a4 carbine or Mid lenght then up grade to the SS barrel. The A2 has a carry handle and iron sights the A4 is a flat top reciever. The SS up grade is a Wilson SS barrel that is basicly there same barrel they use on thier National Match or Varmint rigs. I have sold and shot several set up this way and all have been very accurate. This should run you in the uper amount you want to spend, but in my opinion is a mush nicer fit and finished rifle.
I would get a 16 carbine with a colapsible stock as my first ar15. They are fun to shoot, can be made to fit just about everyone and are lite weight. I have nothing against the DPMS I just dont think it is as nice of a rifle. Good Luck

Uh, stay away from a carry handle. Go with a flat top AR. If I had an AR with a carry handle I would throw it in the trash can. If it was a removable carry handle, I would remove the carry handle and then throw the handle in the trash can. I'll admit though, they are great for hitting 4 foot by 8 foot sheets of plywood at fifty yards. I think I actually got three feet MOA out of my carry handle sight once. HaHa, Im kidding yall. But seriously get a flat top.

I would seriously look at Rock River due to the fine two stage national match trigger they have, super accuracy and other features of their rifles.
Maybe the Coyote or Predator Pursuit Models.
You referred to being mobile while hunting so a full heavy barrel varmint rifle would be too heavy to pack around all the time.

I have an 18" bull barrell and it never really bothers me. Maybe it's just me though. I am not sure the bull barrell is completely necessary to hunt coyotes so you could go with a lighter barreled Rock River and still probably drive some tack.
