AR-180B

I was thinking about buying one of these rifles for a coyote gun, I live in canada and this is the only AR i can get with my firearms licsense. I was wondering what kind of groups this thing will shoot? is it comparable to a AR-15? how far out could I get a coyote with one of these? Wish I could get a AR-15..... also do the barrels from the AR-15's fit the 180's?

I'll try to help.

I looked into one of these. They're an Ok rifle. They're somewhat less expensive than Armalite AR-15s. I think the gas system on the 18 series is better.

The 180B has got a 5-6 lb trigger pull. An after market trigger gets you to where you're out as much money as many 'better' quality Ar-15s.

You can get attachments, scope mounts etc. Many AR-15 parts go on the 180B. I'm a little amazed that you can get a 180B but not a 15

Thanks for the help. What's the 2 stage trigger I hear about on the armalite web-site? whats the advantage of them? I would love to get a 15, but our stupid gun laws /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'm not the most qualified to answer this but I'll try.

There is a small amount of take-up when you first pull the trigger. Right before you get to the point where the sear is about to break, resistance gets heavier. I think it's for safety reasons.

I wish somebody more knowledgeable about the 180B would jump in. The good news for you is you can shoot minute-of-coyote with it. I'm just afraid that after you get everything right, you'll have as much in the gun as an AR-15 would cost you; which may not be a concern since you can't have one of those...

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Go to www.ar15.com. There is a guy by the name of "Templar' who moderates the AK portion of that site who can tell you more. There also are some Cunucks there who may be able to help you with what you can own.

A 2 stage trigger is a safety feature but mainly makes a trigger feel lighter than it is. For example; A 4 pound trigger could have the first stage, which is usually fairly long but varies, set for 3 pounds. The final stage is set for 4 pounds but since you are already holding 3 pounds, it feels like 1 pound. 2 stage triggers are very popular with competition shooters, both high power and smallbore. Many smallbore shooters use a 2 stage trigger to set a very light weight and still keep it safe. Triggers around 1 oz are pretty common.

If you do a search here you will find quite a lot of posts about 2 stage triggers.

I am no AR expert...my first AR hasn't got here yet, but there is a artical on ar15.com in the industry page under armalite that says "ar180b..a few bugs.." or somthing like that and he and others talk about them. A good guy to talk to on here is Jerry White. I have read his artical's and he knows his stuff. Good luck to you and let us know what you get.
