AR Bug Again! Interesting application w/ pics

After the threat of Hillary, Obama, etc. And after shooting my custom AR all season, with extreme accuracy..

We decided to get a couple more AR's. Wife liked mine, but wanted a lighter one...

We ordered a 20" HBAR for me, & an M4 for her, as it was lightweight & compact.

These rifles are the CMMG bargain bin AR's at $570.00 each.
(I swear they would bring twice that at a gunshow now.)

Well, long story short, they ran out of 20" HBAR barrels & I switched my order to a second M4 for my "pickup" gun, & save wear & tear on my custom AR.

We got them Friday.

They both sport DPMS lowers with a 1-9 twist CMMG milspec barrel. They look like real shooters, & the best part is that the $175 Chip McCormick trigger can wait, as they are really not that bad at all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

After I got them home, I topped of mine with a 3-9x40 Leupold. I did not like the front sight, & proceeded to cut it off....(I know, this gives some of you the chills...) BUt, I think it just gives me peace of mind to not have anything sticking up in the scope.

After the cut...

Added a neoprene sling & thought I was finished.

Then went out to the range...
Now, bear in mind I was a trained sniper for the SWAT team while a LEO, so, I'm a stickler for accuracy. To the Extreme..I just won't tolerate an inaccurate rifle.

It sighted in OK...at first.
After the initial setting at 100 was achieved, I just could not fine tune it...At all.
I was "Chasing the bubble" all over the place. I DID get one 5 shot group at an inch, but after letting barrel cool, it went back to 2" & some were 2 1/2" at 100. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I realized that the barrel would just NOT do any better, & if I was going to be happy with it, I'll have to get a free-floated barrel upper. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The good news is that I can sell the existing upper for about what it takes to get a new 16" floated bull bbl upper.

Then the better news is today, my wife said she wanted to go try it on some rabbits anyway, to get used to the feel of it.

Well, I was surprised that it shot as well in the field as it did. We layed down over 10 rabbits, & it actually performed really well!

About dark I took a 150 yard shot at a sitting jack, & bowled him over.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I know ME though, & will probably go ahead & get the 16" bull for it. It may add a little weight, but it'll be worth it to have the peace of mind of an accurate rifle.

By the way, those CMMG rifles are great for the money. It's a good thing they discontinued the sale, because I'd go ahead & get a 20" HBAR too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'll post the build when my new upper gets here, with a range report on it as well.

Good shooting, all! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

All I can say about this is, good thing you didn't buy that CMC trigger!

Buy the Timney, it only costs an extra 11$!

The (creep) on the CMC I bought was worse than the DPMS factory junker!

my buddy ordered a couple of the 20" hbars from them with a2 stock on apr 2nd. nothing was mentioned about them being out of the longer barrels. how long did it take you to recieve your guns? some of the guys on ar15.com are talking they pushed the remaining orders back another month. i hope thats not the case as one of the 20 inchers was ordered for me.

Ours were on order since around the first week of March...

It took us awhile, & lots of bugging them on the phone to get them. BTW, I didn't start the phone calls until they were 2 weeks past the 2 week delivery they promised at time of purchase.

I understand they were totally swamped with orders. They are good people, & I would buy from them again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
