. im obviously going the economy route so please keep that in mind. i will be using this a Coyote Hunting / for fun gun and i dont have A CLUE what route to take on optics. Wanna be accurate at 150-175 but also wanna use it in close quarters. timber/brush/thickets. Regular scope? compact AR type scope? red dot??? any advice will be appreciated

In had that scope on my last AR15 It sucked around dawn and dusk and the eye releave sucked when zoomed. I did like the light crosshair [beeep].

I personally like a 3x9x40 as an all around versatile scope. I don't think you'll be happy with a red dot at 150 yds. You can dial the scope down to 3 or 4 in close cover and you have the option of 9x at longer ranges. I don't own a Bushnell Elite but some guys like them and $129.88 sounds like a good deal. I think they have a lifetime warranty but you verify that yourself. You could also look at the Nikon Prostaff. I own 2 and they've both been good to me. You can find them for about $130.00 on sale. I know they have a lifetime warranty. I really don't think that you can get a better scope for $130.00 than the Nikon, maybe the Bushnell on sale but again I don't own one so I can't give you an honest opinion on that one.
I also like the RRA mount for the money.

I've had good luck with Simmons 22 mag scopes but I put 1 on my
wifes rifle and she hates it with a passion.

Take a look at the Burris TAC 30, it's a 1x4 power with a 30mm tube. It is pretty close to perfect 1/ no power, but can be turned up to 4 power. The reticle takes some getting used to...it is also illuminated. The reticle is out to 500 or 600 yards.

Good luck!

I put a 2.5x10x50mm Cabelas Alaskan on my flat top Oly. I am very happy with it.

Just because you have an AR does not mean you have to have an AR specific scope.

That Burris DMS-1 1-4X with the dot/circle reticle is pretty nice for what you're describing, too. If you consider 4X enough for a 175 yard shot.

This reticle:

It's a bit heavy, 30mm tube and costs around $200, but that 1X power choice and illuminated dot reticle pretty much makes it as effective as an EOTech/magnifier combination for a calling rifle.

I bought that same scope from them a few months ago. It is very large and heavy. It has an adjustable objective that was very, very hard to turn on the one I received. One of the logo stickers that was supposed to be attached to the turret cover was laying in the box. I never mounted it, I sent it back.
Maybe it would be ok for long range bench shooting but it did not suit me for a hunting scope.

I went with a Vortex Diamondback 3.5-10x50mm for my RRA P.P.
$236 delivered. It has great FOV at the expense of eye relief but on a .223 that does not matter.

My only suggestion is get decent glass and plan on $200 minimum. Nikon Buckmaster, Redfield Revolution, Vortex Diamondback, Burris Fullfield are the places to start.

I would have gone 2-7x32 but I also like target work out to 200 yards and 7x ain't enough for me.

Enjoy the shopping.

I have a Burris Fullfield 3-9x40 with the ballistic plex reticule on my 6.8 SPC, and a Burris Fullfield 3-9x40 E1 on two other ARs that have the E1 ballistic plex reticule.

I like all of these scopes, I bought one at academy and it was a combo with a pair of pretty decent 10X binoculars. I think it was $129
I like the Burris PEPR mounts for the ARs also.
You could buy one of the PEPR mounts and use the picatinny rail ring tops, and later buy a mini red dot for close targets.

Burris has a pretty good reputation for quality and service. I have never had a problem with the dozen or so Burris products I own.

thanks for all the input fellas, decisions, decisions...i just sighted in a redfield revolution for a friend and really liked the scope, as i do my own bushnell 3200 so i think ive at least got it narrowed down a bit. now i just need to figure out if i wanna go with a 2-7 or 3-9 b/c id like to have the extra power for shootin crows and whatnot, but at the same rate id rather not have a bigger chunkier scope on a small framed short rifle...ill follow up with pics when i get this thing pieced togeter
