AR scope?

I'm pretty low on the AR learning/experience curve as I just bought my first. I'm hunting in Maine, shots almost always under 200 yards and much of the time in the woods. Should I be looking for a AR specific scope or will any hunting scope work? Any recommendations from you Maine or northeast hunters?

Any hunting scope will work. Just figure out how much power you want, how big an objective and then how you plan to mount it, permanent or removable.

There really isn't a specific way to mount the scope, I like nose to charge handle, so my scopes mount in extended mounts and forward on the receiver.

For 200yrds & less a lower powered adjustable would be great or possibly even a fixed 4 power...

The Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40 with Vbrite reticle has done a great job on my AR's and its under $200 or if your on a tight budget the Vortex CrossfireII 2-7x32 is about $110 its super light and both have quality glass and long eye relief which I find very important on a AR to leave room to get to the charging handle

Also don't forget to buy a good set of rings! If your AR is a flattop then a set of high weaver-style rings should be a good fit....good luck!

I don't get to shoot very far myself. I went with the Luepold Mark AR Mod1 scope 3-9x40.
This scope lets in plenty of light for those early morning or night hunts. I'm happy with it.

^ that would also be a good option, what kind of price range or budget are you going for?

Also if you are wanting an scope that was intended for an AR15 but can be useful for hunting as well the new Bushnell AR Optics line isn't too bad for the money, I think you can get a 2-7 power with the .223 bullet drop compensating reticle for around $130, there is sooo many good options it really is only limited by your budget...but the main thing is to get a quality scope with decent glass

Yes.
A 3-9 is great.
I had a 2-7 Leupold on an AR and i liked it even better than a 3-9.

I'm using one of the Bushnell AR optics in 1x4 bdc mounted in a Burris PEPR. I can honestly say I'm very impressed with it. It has good clarity even in low light. Eye relief is very good as is the field of view. I would recommend it for sure

Leupold 3x9 AR would be a great choice. I picked up Cabelas house brand 4x12 with bdc retical recently for under $60 after using a coupon card. For beating around it should be fine. Lifetime warranty on Cabelas gear is a plus.
