Well it's been two years of calling now, and I am really getting desperate. I have eight days to report for active duty (to go to iraq) and really would like some advise as to where I should consentrate for a bobcat. I concider myself a descent caller (I have twelve dogs plus numerous gray's under my belt this year), but have been unsucsesful when it comes to the kitty's. Any help would be much apreciated, as I dont have much time until I have to hunt for a different type of varmit.

Dogger,
Good coyote habitat is very poor bobcat country. I see you are from Phoenix. Get out of the wide open spaces and head for the hills, literally. Find the brushiest, thickest, country you can hunt and start there. If it has lots of rabbits, quail, songbirds, then you are in the right country. Next spend a minimum of 30 minutes per stand and sit as still as a statue. Bobcats will pick up the slightest movement such as you just turning your head to look. It would scare you how many bobcats you are calling in AND NOT SEEING! But rest assured, they are seeing you! Then leaving. They are not canids. they are felines and must be hunted differently. Start up near Payson. Lots of bobcats there. Hope this helps and good luck on BOTH your ventures. You are a great American.

i can't help you out in bobcat hunting, but i wish you luck in the time you have to hunt for bobcats. i want to say good luck and be safe in your tour in iraq. our prayers will be with you and thanks for serving this great country.

Thank's all for your support. Trust me it helps! I got out of active duty three years ago, but after hearing what my friends (make that Brothers!) I could'nt sit on the sidelines any longer, so I joined the gaurd and requested a unit that was deploying to do my part. Just want to do part to make it a better place for your's and my kids. After being to 16 other countries all I can say is God Bless America!!!
Now to the important stuff. Went calling today and passed on a fox and two dogs(I realllly want a BOBCAT!!). I also called in something else but never got a good look at it. I figure it was my cat cause I didnt see it until I got up prematurly from my stand when mother nature called, in a hury!
This all happend between Horshoe Dam and Bartlett lake. Did not expect the yotes there, but they were. Also saw a lot of ducks for any of you Arizonans out there, if your in that kind of things. Most all of them Mallards. Anyways thats my story and thanks to all.

AzDogger: Three of us came back to The Valley this afternoon having spent five days calling. We got two bobcats and mucho coyotes. Over the years our ratio of bobcat to coyote has run 1 bocat to every 22 coyotes. If we want to priortize bobcats we only manage to get one for every ten or eleven stands.

My opinion matches several of those that have offfered advice. We find more cats in canyons or at the base of mesas where there a lots of broken up boulders. We look for good cottontail and rodent populations, too. Several areas we enjoy are areas bordering the Chirachua National Monument, Chevlon Canyon and portions of the Arizona Strip, although I am sure there are many other excellent areas in Arizona.

Good luck in all your endeavors.

AzDogger,

Thank you for your service to our country. Hope you get your cat and please keep your head down in Iraq.

God Bless,
$bob$

AzDogger,
Cats you want, try the Upper Verde. Go east of Perkinsville, Sycamore, Black Mtn. all along the Upper Verde is prime cat country, Bobcats & lions.

Calling the canyons from White horse down to Perkinsville can be extreamly productive for cats also...

You'll have to kick the gray's out of your way and wait for the cats... Good luck to you /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif and bring the 12 gauge with 4 buck.

Well you guys are not gonna believe this but did call in bob today! I took a coulple of my managers out calling from Sportsmans Warehouse, Seth Parkins and Mark Russell. Well they wanted some action so I took them out to my coyte fields and ten minutes into our second stand Mark shoots. Well I figured he shot a dog so when he jumped up I quickly motioned for him to sit down. He looked at me kinda flustered like but did so anyways. I started yellping and hollerin but nothing else showed so I yelled out lets go get yer dog! He replied back a little embaresed "Jas on I'm sorry but its your cat you been hunting" Well my awnser back is not repeatable on this forum, but the nice version is that I was very happy for him, a little frustrated, but happy.
So at least I called one in and if not for me at least I called it in for someone who has to do with my raise when I get back:)! I have one more day I'm gonna try and then I have to pack. But if anyone in the Phoenix area drops into sportsmans look on the photo board in the next few weeks Seth said he'll get the pictures developed and put it up. She was more beatiful than I imagined.

PS: I know the 17 rem is supposed to be fur friendly but it sure put a hole in her!

First of all, I agree with S. Craig's post earlier. The right area is a must. Second is Bobcats will come in slow and cautiously so don't expect the same results as you do with dogs.
Second and Foremost is Thank You for what you're doing! My family and I thank you and all the others for going out in harms way to keep us safe. Let all your brothers know how we feel.

God Bless and we'll keep you in mind when we're taking down the fur.

Again, thanks a million for all the support and suggestion's. I think I will head up to whitehorse area. Shot a deer up their and remember seeing cat tracks a lot.
I also just wanted to thank eveyone for how much every one has helped me without even knowing it. I have read a lot on the forums with out posting much till recsently. Sorry for no pictures just started out on this computer thing and will learn the whole digital stuff when I get back. Keep up the good stories cause I will be hunting though you all while I'm gone. I'll let you know how I do tomarrow.
Godspeed and Good Luck!
