Armasight Vampire

Anyone have any experience with a vampire or handheld using the Core tubes? looking for a cheap back up night vision scope to switch around on 22 and different guns. I have Gen 3 setup just looking for a cheap alternative, wondering if the Core would be better than digital

Snoopy, have you seen Kevin's YouTube test of the Vampire? It looks pretty good for a Gen 1. Just in case you haven't seen it, here it is.

I have the Armasight Spark and like it. It has really good resolution and is plenty good enough for my intended purpose of spotting hogs out to 100 yards or so, but it will work further. It does require a good light focused fairly tight but it's pretty good for a Gen 1.

Ive seen it and several other youtube videos, looks really interesting. Trying to decide if its a better option than going digital. A lot of the new digital has great clarity and gen 1 would need as much IR light as digital it seems

BL, a guy who posts under the name CSM52 has both the Vampire and the Photon. He likes them both but gives the edge to the Vampire for calling due to the wide FOV of the 3x power as opposed to 4.6 of the Photon. You might PM him, or if he sees your post, I'm sure he will respond.

I had a vampire that a buddy ended up buying from me I also have a atn xsight gen 2 and a pulsar phantom gen 3 and I sold a armasight nemesis gen2 4x. If I was to buy a scope under $800 it would be the vampire hands down but my only issue with the scope was the 3x of it. The vampire had a cleaner picture then my nemesis did but the nemesis could see into the woods or low light areas just a little better then the vampire. If I remember right I think the field of view is slightly smaller on the vampire vs the nemesis also. As of right now I haven't spent much time behind my Xsight and I have been a little let down so far but I'm planning on adding a T-20 and seeing how much that will improve the picture.

I have looked around some for a screw on doubler like what pulsar offers for the phantom series scopes but I have struck out.
Maybe Kevin from high tech redneck might have some information or better resources for finding something that would work. The other scope out there would be a photon but I haven't had any time behind one of those yet.

The vampire has the best clarity and view of any low end NV.

I like how it zeros with manual adjustments and how the FOV is greater on the vampire VS the photon. It also only uses one cr123 battery and last for a long time VS the photon who is a little harder on batteries.

My biggest downfall with the vampire is that it is heavy, but it is very very well built.

I have an X-Sight II and it came with the upgraded IR light that ATN sells for $119. Before it arrived I had already ordered a Coyote Reaper IR light and the view through the scope is very good for what it is.

Lately we've been selling more Vampires than Photons but the market has its whims and changes frequently. There are plusses and minuses to both units you simply have to make a list and decide for yourself what you can live with/without.

Ah929r - I haven't seen any screw on doublers for the Vampire. However, going to 6x would likely cut the FOV down considerably and possibly starve it of enough light to make it perform poorly. I've asked Armasight to consider offering it in 4x but they don't seem to want to do that right now as that would likely raise the price moderately. Kevin

Kevin thanks for answering my questions about the doubler and it does make sense. I should make a trip down to your place some time and check out a few items since we are fairly close. In the mean time your latest Dvd is going have to do Thanks again and I'm looking forward to watching it.

No problem just give me a few days notice and you can drop by to see them all live.

Kevin

Have you used different wavelength IR lights with? Just curious how sensitive they are, I have a gen 3 PVS and am in need of making a way to cut down the wash out, but have no clue how a gen 1 responds

Just curious, I am looking for a magnifier or Telephoto lens of 5x or more for my PVS just for better long range ID, I use the 3x now with armasight aim point to shoot, and Pulsar to scan, getting the kinks worked out slowly, but realizing that I cant get much over 250 300 yards or so with the 3x. Any Ideas?
