Does anybody think that they should be legal. I think the only state they are legal in is alabama. If they are legalized do you think that you could actually kill a deer with one?

Sure you could but it would require great skill with the weapon,i tried to throw one at a pow wow they arnt as easy as they look.

They just legalized them here in PA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. I can't imagine anyone hunting with one of these things /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif.

I suspect it would be quite the accomplishment to kill a deer with an atlatl. Given the amount of movement that is necessary, it would be pretty hard to get the drop on a deer. However, with the size of the bolts, I bet they have some serious kinetic energy when they find their target. Personally, I think it's cool. It's a true primitive weapon, unlike modern compound bows and muzzleloaders.
My only concern with it is that due to the difficulty of use and some people's laziness, you might end up with some injured deer that aren't recovered. But, the same thing happens with rifles, shotguns, and bows and there'll be a lot more of those in the woods than there will be atlatls. So I say, go for it.

It would be a true challenge, you almost have to run to throw it so a tree stand wouldnt work,a true primative weapon to be sure, not like these $1000 recurves that throw an arrow 10x times the speed of a true primative bow.
