ATR 100 Vs. Savage 200

Thanks for the wealth of information guys this forum is great.

I have an AR, several AK's and I'm looking for something to cover the longer ranges. I want to use it for plinking and hunting. I can care less about looks. (probably spray paint it anyway)

I have found these locally:
Mossberg ATR-100 $244 (Walmart)
Savage 200 $319 (Gun store)
(Both 30 06)

I'll probably spend more on the scope. (which I'm still researching)

Which gun do you think will work out best? Thanks.
 
Bass Pro Shops has or had the Savage Stevens 200 on sale for $199...I'd jump on that in either 30-06 or .270

It is a Steven's, the Savage uses an accu-trigger and the Steven's uses the old Savage trigger that was still easily adjusted, just not listed in the owner's manual. They are using the savage bolt and barrel, but stock is cheaper than the savage stock. A take off wood savage stock will set you back about $30. A take off synthetic savage stock will set you back more in shipping than the cost of the stock.

I have about a dozen savage rifles that all shoot under 1 MOA easily....for my money, I'd get the Savage Stevens 200.
 
Thanks Jack. I spend hours on many forums everyday. Rarely do i join any or post.

But, seems i like this one.

I just got back from Walmart. Handled the ATR; does seem cheap. Earlier today I checked out the Savage I was more impressed. But I do have a Hi-Point Carbine that cost $150 but shoots great sooo. I'm still thinking. Probably less of a risk to go with the Savage.

I'll wait and see what the shooters have to say /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh, the guy at Walmart said he would order the Savage 200 for $269 (Thanks I stand corrected "Stevens")

The Savage has a track record thats good...the Mossberg will most likely shoot, but the Savage/Stevens...well they are still one of the best out of the box accurate guns you can get...throw a savage wood stock on it, and your set.

I have a Rem.700 ADL 30/06 for sale in the classifieds.
It's brand new unfired (I won it at a banquet), with the factory camo stock. It also has rings and bases. I'll let ya have it for 325 shipped. PM me if you'r interested.
