Axis break in and ammo testing...

I did the follwing break in yesterday:

1) Before firing rifle for first time - clean bore and chamber thoroughly
2) Fire 1st shot
3) Clean with mild powder solvent 10 strokes brush
4) Dry bore with patches until clean (usually 3)
Repeat process for each shot for the first 5 rounds

After the first 5 rounds, repeat cleaning process every 5 rounds for the next 25 rounds.

Today I tested this ammo at 100 yards.

I am sure the groups will tighten up after break in and a trigger job.

At a dollar a round I am sure they are good!

I am sticking with ammo less than 50 cents per round.

#1 and #2 are great things to do with any new firearm. Any other attempt to do a "break-in" is a waste of time. It's a proven fact that even the expert barrel makers will attest to.

But I'm certainly glad that you are pleased with your new rifle. They are great guns.

Horandy practice ammo is what you seek if you are going after cheaper factory ammo, that stuff will outshoot any ammo you have there in your pic.

This. At $1/rd it's worth it for me when hunting coyote, bobcat and fox. My Axis is a laser with this ammo.

If that's the case, you need to be realistic in your expectations.

$1000 scope, $300 rifle, & $0.50 ammo.

I like it!

I would agree on a better check weld, much more stable platform to shoot from & maybe even a chair (looking at your avatar pic)... Would likely do wonders.

cheap glass on an expensive rifle = bad gun.

Good glass on an inexpensive rifle = (usually) good gun. Unless it's a rossi.

My axis 25-06 replaced my more expensive rifles for hunting, excluding elk. It has a super high end redfield

on it and shoots cloverleaves with hunting bullets when I do my part. Brand new the rifle cost $209, glass cost about $200 and I roll my own ammo. As a hunter, hard to argue with that combo!

Odds are the OP will be happy.

the fiochi 40 and 50 grain vmax at cabeals. Myself and many others on here get moa or better. Its on sale for like 20 bucks per 50 or was the other day. They also have a horn 55 grain soft point in a 50 round box that is just a little more money, which is what I like.
