Believe it or not, badgers are partial to green peas. If you have a slough or small pond on the farm, here's how to catch one. Wait until the water freezes on the pond and then take a chainsaw and cut a 3 foot square hole in the ice. You need to get the chunk of ice out of the hole so its open water. Next you need something that will float in the water...a small piece of foam or even a little piece of the ice you removed. Now get you some tiny green peas from the grocery store. I prefer frozen ones, but canned peas will work. Take a handful of the peas and put them on the foam or whatever you'll float in the water. Set it to float in the middle of the open water with the peas on top. Try to clean up the area around the hole so it doesn't look too disturbed and then move off to the edge and hide in the bushes. Within a few hours the badger should show up looking for the peas. He should go right to the edge of the water and lean out trying to get the piece of foam with the peas on it. While the badger is trying to take a pee, run up and kick him in the icehole!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Seriously, out in Idaho we have lots of badgers. Most of them are shot as incidentals when people just happen to see them out of their holes. I know alot of people have pretty good luck trapping them also and mainly use dirthole sets or conibears if you can find the den. I have heard of some people calling one in while hunting coyotes, but I've never done it myself. Good luck.
