Barnes TSX .224?

Has anybody done any experimenting with the lightweight .224 triple shocks on heavy varmints such as big coyotes?

That's what I was looking for. I figured the lightweights could be sent fast enough to work well on dogs. Thanks, ill try some.

Yes, I've been using Barnes since 1992, on coyotes using my 22 Hornet, though I've also shot them out of my 222mag, 243 and 270 (at coyotes).

They are very fur friendly, and, in the Hornet, the Barnes work better than any other bullet I tried.

I use the 45gr XLC, and when I'm out I'll switch to the 45gr TSX.

With these monolithic bullets, you can go lighter and still get better penetration than most other bullet types.

Can't say about coyotes, but my 53gr TSX over Varget in a heavy barrel Kimber .223 has taken 8 Texas Whitetail deer and 2 pigs in as many shots over 5 seasons, all dropped in their tracks. 10 for 10 and 30 left in the box. Best performer for my .223 I have found. Never found one in the animal, all through and through penetration.

Anyone use the 45gr TSX or 50gr TTSX? If all weights of the TSX type bullets penetrate completely, what is the advantage of using a heavier version of it like 55gr? Wouldn't faster and flatter be adventageous to hunters at reasonable predator hunting distances say under 300 yards?

If i may interject, I haven't shot TSX's as yet on game, but I have been researching the lite wt. .224's actually for deer cuz dad has a Savage 24 in 223/12 that he would like to try on them. I think it's a 12 twist (have to confirm that) and was nervous about the length of the mono-metal bullets vs twist in his gun. I have read that most folks are getting pass-throughs on deer, broadside, ribs, with even the 45 TSX's! Anybody be able to confirm that on deer or even hogs? I am looking to eventually have us on all mono-metals for big game.

I don't know as I have not recovered any. But, Barnes says yes, they will retain 100% unless they lose a petal.

So if they retain "99%-100%" of their weight, and all weights completely pass through a coyote 100%...

Is there ANY reason at all to shoot the 55gr vs a faster flatter 45gr version? On predators.

Increased bc in the wind maybe??

Dual versatility on bigger game??

On predators, no, none I can think of.
