Barnes Varmint Grenade

I'm wanting to try the 26 grain hollow point Barnes Varmint Grenade in my 204. Does any one use/know anything about the bullets performance? Any info helps. Thank you.

i am no help on the .204 stuff but i shoot them out of my ar15 .223 in 36gr. 27 gr of benchmark about 3800fps. they are awesome on Pd's and not great on coyotes. requires a precise shot because they explode if you hit ANY bone. Pd's explode into a red mist.

i dont know about their effectify on game or in the 204. but in my .22-250 ackly imp. and i can get the 36 grain bullets going 4700 fps useing R#15

I have a few i have been shootin. But haven't shot any critters, and probly won't They shoot ok.. For critters I uuse my 222 or 223. IMO all the 204 offerings are not suitable for predator hunting. Yes i know people shoot stuff all the time, but from what I've seen the jackets are rather thin..

It penetrates better than it's supposed to. I shot a groundhog with my .223 that was coming out from under my shed at about 50 yards. It went through the groundhog and took a chunk out of a cinderblock behind the hog.

I use them as a reduced load in the 204 ruger
26 varmint grenade with 12.9 grains of blue dot
powder and they shoot 3500 fps with this load.

makes a nice cheap or say a cheaper load than
full power loads ,plus less powder used, less barrel wear,
less noise.less barrel heat

performance.
they explode birds and realy tear up small game.
i have shot coyotes longest shot was 150 yards
bullet never exited =just exploded inside them
and they fell just like a ton of bricks and never moved.

I like them for the cheap reduced loads I use,for like 200 yds or less.but if you was wanting to shoot say 300-400-500 yards or so I would use the 40 or 45 bullets as they travel longer distance a lot better.

Really? 4700fps?

Or is this a typo?

I think you need a new chronograph. I started getting high pressure signs around 4200fps with my swift.

Didn't believe you until I went here to check it out. That's pretty impressive; can you hear the bullets SCREAM as they are headed towards the target?
