Hello, I have a 30-06 that I was looking for a lighter antelope, deer load for, I was looking through my manual and came across the barnes 150 grain XLC, data on it has it at 3000-3100 fps, now thats screaming for a 30-06!

I know that this is a coated bullet, I was wondering if anyone can give me their thoughts and experience with this bullet??

any info good or bad would be appreciated!

thanks

Excellent bullet for big game. Barnes X bullets are all I have used for big game since about 1992. If it shoots well in your rifle, go ahead and use it for elk, deer, etc.

I use Barnes in my 270, 30-06 and 22Hornet, and I load for friends with a 300wsm, 300win, 300 weatherby and 2 243's. You could say I like these bullets!

The XLC bullets do slip down the barrel faster. When I switched fron the regular 180gr X bullets to the XLCs in my 30-06 I couldn't get enough 4350 in the case to get the same velocity. I had to go to 4064.

Alot of the guys have had trouble getting the old XLC bulltes to group well, id look at the Barnes TSX, they have shot pretty well for me

i shoot alot of barnes x and tri shock and i have got some of the mrx on the way ,all good bullets in my opinion.i've tried the coated in 22-250&.308 and couldn't get the groups i was looking for so i stick with the uncoated but each rifle is different..just remmber when shooting any of barnes bullets you need to shoot lighter since it penatrates 28%deeper then standard lead bullets ex..you like 130 gr.bullets effect on deer in a standard lead core round then try the 120 gr barnes x to get the same effect but now you are shooting faster and flatter..call barnes they will help you with any thing you ask..

For a antelope load in the 06 , the 130 gr T-Shock Barnes should be the one to try. You should be able to push this bullet really fast and it should be flat shooting. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My 30.06 loves the 180 XLC flat base (now discontinued, but available through Barnes direct..boat tails are still in production).

I purchased the Barnes Manual # 3 because it provided info for seating the bullets not found in other books and also the starting and max powder charges-get the book you'll be glad you did.

My .06 likes 58.0 of H4350 for 2800 fps (59.0 gave 2902 fps but showed signs of high pressure) but in Barnes book they indicate that for them the most accurate powders (for 180 gr XLC) were Varget, RL 15 and IMR 4064.
