Barrel Change Remington R25

Trying to change the barrel. Took the handguard off, it looks like I need to take the part that the handguard attaches to off to get to the barrel but, I can’t figure out to do that

Probably need a barrel nut wrench. Some are proprietary some not so much. Without seeing what yours looks like it's hard to help you out.

I could be wrong BUT... If the tubular HG came off and it was threaded on OVER what looks like a barrel nut (lots of holes in the front one of which the gas tube goes through), then that's the barrel nut. You will need a multi-prong barrel wrench.

Those barrel nuts are aluminum and can be a real bitch to get off.

This is what I used on AR10's like the DPMS...

Sometimes some heat from a torch helps.

That looks like the tool I would need

Yes, an LR308 barrel nut wrench. Looks like you have a vice block for the upper? Or do you just have it clamped in there? There is a special tool for that too.

good lord, someone has boogered the heck out of that thing. i bet its one of those that had to be torqued like crazy to get the gas tube to line up, or someone put thread locker on there.

i remember breaking my DMPS lr308 loose, same issue... what a giant PITA.

Thanks everyone. I’ll get the LR308 wrench. I have it in an Upper Block to hold it in the vice.
