barrel life of a 22-250?

That's a tough question to answer. Much depends on how the barrel is treated. Conditions that effect barrel life are, how hot the loads are you shoot through it, frequency of cleaning, whether or not you use a bore guide for cleaning, how hot you get the barrel shooting (shooting lots of rounds close to each other). I can see a 22-250 barrel shooting very accurately for 1500 rounds, maybe more. Same thing for the 223 barrel.

If it's a hunting rifle, it should last your lifetime, as well as whoever it gets passed on to....and probably the next after that.

I would GUESS that a 22-250 would have more than 1500 shots for barrel life but then again that all depends on how you use it. A .223 should be able to reach 10,000 rounds if taken care of. JMO.

I had a Savage 110 in .22-250 and got about 1000 rounds out of the barrel before the accuracy starting going south. Another 500 rounds and it was finished. I now have a Hart 26" SS Varmint barrel on it, and boy does it ever shoot. I'm a little older and wiser now so I don't load it up so hot, and take a lot more time between shots. It helps. Best wishes.

The most I have ever got out of a 22-250 was 1300. It was still pretty accurate but would take 20+ fouling shots to settle down after cleaning.

A fast twist barrel will not last as long as it will start blowing up bullets.

250 vs .223 is not a fair comparison as the .223 will be no where near the .250 in velocity. You question depends on how you use it. If for predators it will last a lifetime. If you are shooting well stocked PD towns and you really heat it up, may not last more than a couple of thousand.

Well I hope my new 22-250 last's a bit longer. I am shooting 50 & 55 grain hornady.......not to hot. The barrel is match grade & heavy. Mostly hunt woodchucks with more Eastern coyote in the future. Some bench.......maybe 200 rounds a year at the rod & gun. I wait a good minute in-between shots and usually shoot 20 total.

I hope doing this helps it last to 3000.....but, we will see.
